For a rifle, I would say you should get a Ruger 10/22, in any of the number of setups. Lots of parts and addons for them. Also this is 50th anniversary 1964-2014. They are real easy to learn basic gunsmithing and do upgrades yourself.

I've been thinking on getting one, maybe once I get a job and save up the money I will. I'll probably just get a standard one and then Red Jacket Firearms makes a cool looking bullpup conversion kit. You could use it left or right handed and use the 25 round mags. Or the Archangel Nomad, it's just a conversion kit that'll make it look like the HK G36C assault rifle.

I own a pair of Ruger 22/45 pistols,,,
I also own a CZ-75B Kadet in .22 LR,,,
I also own a trio of Beretta NEOS pistols.

The Ruger fanatics don't believe me,,,
But the NEOS pistols are just as accurate and reliable as my Rugers.

I keep 4.5" barrels on two of them and a 6" in the case,,,
The third pistol frame is near permanently mounted on the carbine kit.

They eat any ammo I put through them,,,
They do not have that annoying magazine disconnect,,,
So as a bug-out-bag or SHTF gun they are actually better,,,
Because they can be a single shot pistol if your magazine breaks.

Taking them apart for a deep cleaning is a breeze,,,
Swapping barrels out takes about 60 seconds,,,
EWK Arms makes a great fiber optic sight.

Right now you can get a Beretta NEOS in 4.5" or 6" at Buds for $248.00,,,
I believe that makes it the least expensive of the quality pistols.

They aren't the be-all and end-all of 22 pistols,,,
But for the money they are very difficult to beat.

There are a lot of Rimfire Steel Challenge shooters that swear by them.

.

That is just to cool! Now I'm really thinking on getting one!!!!!! :P

I like my SR22. It's accurate, reliable and eats anything I run through it. Assembly and disassembly for routine cleaning is super easy and quick.

They are running a distributors special on these which comes with three mags from the factory, that's the one I'd get if I were in the market to buy one.

I have a NAA mini-master revolver with adjustable rear sights that is LR/WMR convertible that I really enjoy.

Both are quality rimfires that won't break the bank.

I have an advantage Arms conversion for my Glocks. It's great for training! My old browning challenger is really cool cause it's old school. For rifles I like dedicated .22 uppers like the Nordic components NC22 or the stuff from TACCOM. I just bought a Savage Mark II FV-SR for my Silencerco Sparrow. .22's are great cause most of them r cheap. I just wish we could find ammo for them.

Smith & Wesson any model will be good to go but pricey.

My buck mark is very accurate and is NOT ammo finicky. It shoots anything I feed it.

I wish I had the money to get on of the older Smith's with the 6 inch barrel (I forgot what model that is, I'm not so familiar with any S&W revolvers besides the 10, 66, 686, 640, and 627) but they is pricey. My dad still has his.
I think it might of been the older Buckmarks that where finicky? I'm not sure, I know though they are excellent .22's!

Get a Buckmark or Ruger for the money and never look back. You'll find a smith somewhere down the road you can afford.
Love my buckmarks.
