According to an NPR report I heard this morning, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is talking about allowing concealed carry (or, as the reporter kept saying, "conceal and carry") on base.

I've also heard reports that the shooter may have suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) while overseas. That would certainly go a long way towards explaining what happened.

To be more accurate...based on reporting, he claimed to have suffered TBI but was not diagnosed with TBI and has no incident on file to explain where the TBI would've come from.

That's the thing that sucks about PTSD and TBI. There are sh$tbirds out there who know it's a guaranteed payday and a ticket to easy duty. Separating the wheat from the chaff is so hard with those highly sensitive subjects. It muddies the water and guys with real issues get painted with the same brush as the sh$tbirds and everyone's quality of care goes down.

Something was wrong with him. Interviews with people who knew him don't indicate he was about to implode. Actually, a lot of people had a very high opinion of him. This is all a horrific tragedy.

This seems to be the same with a lot of SS recipients. I think the mentality of most of the whole freaking country is that someone owes them something.

So far there is no indication i have found that explains the cause of a TBI or a diagnoses of PTSD. I didnt know the guy, and some info seems contradictory. What is certain is that the usual suspects have emerged to further their political agendas, using this event as fuel.

It would be prudent to remember that as members of the armed services, you accept restrictions on personal liberty as a matter of course.

I know who one of the suspects who is furthering their political agenda is; President Obama. I have seen him on television regularly addressing this tragedy. But when we get killed in Afghanistan, he doesn't come on TV.

So far i havent seen the President use this event to serve an agenda. There have been the usual anti gun politicians and media though.

Perhaps he isn't using it to serve his agenda, Uncle Money Bags. But he has been addressing the tragedy daily, and he does not address the tragedy of soldiers being killed in Afghanistan, not on a daily basis. I would like to see him do that though, every time one of us is killed in Afghanistan, I would like to see him come on TV and express remorse, like he is doing with the Fort Hood tragedy.

Yes I agree. In a way we are responsible. We send our sons and daughters off to the military thinking it's good for them or patriotism or schooling or whatever. Most people can handle being reprogrammed and can return to a normal life. ....Some cant. Some can take the ugliness of war, others cracked just a little. But it effects us all in some way.

So we send them to military, they might get a little broke or alot broke. But we owe them. So what if a few game the system, it ain't like the military is justa job. In my book, if anyone gets a free pass at gaming the system, it'd be a vet.
