I consider it a distinct possibility that while in game, your OS doesn't realise the machine is actually in use, and is putting the NIC into a sleep mode to save power.

Can you access your internal server when your game goes down? DHCP is the way you probably get your ip address (read loosely your permission to use the network). The reason it matters, is because if your network connection goes down it's one thing and if just your web goes down, it's another.

To make networking easy the majority of the populatiion connects to their router using a TCP/IP protocol called dynamic host connection protocal...
This may not be the answer to that, but if you're not actively "doing" something on that computer, the disconnect would be more or less a blip.
Ok.... I can follow that.
...but... were that the problem, why wouldn't my other puter, also on and connected to the internet at the same time, not be losing connection also?
