I'm not registered on that site and the post does not pull up for me...

Since you're a Handi fan, here are a couple more for you to look at...

D&T - do you free float the barrels on your handi rifles??

I bed the forend from just in front of the barrel stud back. Here are a couple of pictures on how I do the bedding...
Okay, this is what we started with....... PART 1

i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_005.jpg

This shows the forend, bedding pillar and allen screw that will be used...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_012.jpg

This shows the forend as it came from the factory...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_013.jpg

This is the forend after it has been opened up with a 1" wooden dowel wrapped with sandpaper. Also, the hole for the barrel lug has been drilled out to 3/4" for the pillar as well as allowing more bedding compound to surround the pillar for additional strength...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_017.jpg

This shows how the pillar will be sitting in the forend...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_020.jpg

This shows the pillar seated on the barrel lug before I trimmed it to it's final length...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_026.jpg

The area around the barrel lug had to be filled with modeling clay to prevent a mechanical lock between the forend and barrel - to keep the bedding compound from going where it was not suppose to...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_032.jpg

This shows the pillar after it was cut to length. I also used a cut-off wheel on my Dremel tool to cut grooves in the pillar so the bedding compound would have more to "grip"...

PART 2...

I taped the edges of the forend to keep the bedding compound from sticking to places I did not want it to...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_029.jpg

I smeared bedding compound onto the pillar and worked it into the grooves that I had cut into it. Notice how "shiny" the barrel is. That's because I sprayed it with a good coating of release agent to make sure the forend would not become a permanent part of the barrel...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_040.jpg

The forend barrel channel is now loaded with bedding compound as well as the hole for the pillar. I should also note here that the pillar remains screwed to the barrel lug for the bedding process...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_037.jpg

The forend is now pressed onto the barrel. There are also 2 business cards placed in front of the bedded area to serve as spacers and to help keep everything centered...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_042.jpg

I use surgical tubing to keep the forend snug up against the barrel. I also have tubing running from the trigger guard to the swivel stud. This helps keep the forend tight against the receiver...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_044.jpg

I removed some of the excess bedding compound to keep if from being above the center-line of the barrel - to keep it from creating another mechanical lock...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_046.jpg

This is what the forend looked like after removing it from the barrel...
i193.photobucket.com_albums_z132_HonkerHunter_photos_Forend_20Bedding_047.jpg

This is what a proper pillar/glass bedded forend is suppose to look like. This is after the final clean-up...

The finished product...

D&T - Very impressive and well thought out! I've always tried to steer clear of the break-open guns for fears of issues with foreend issues. I've tried the bullberry "hanger system" on an encore with limited success.

This makes me want to try another stab at a longrange encore set-up.

With the T/C Encore, if you are looking for long-range accuracy, a pillar bedded forend seems to work best...

When a barrel like the T/C Encore barrel heats up from firing, the steel expands more length wise and as such, a forend hanger can have an adverse effect on accuracy...

Something else that will play havoc on Encore accuracy, is when the "ears" of the forend touch the frame. There should be enough clearence here that no matter how much the gun is shot or handled, the ears to not even slightly touch up against the side of the frame...

Here are a couple of Encores that I built and do very well out to 600+ yards...

Are those SBR's? You known what your doing not questioning that at all but had just "heard" all the time that you need a 26 inch or longer barrel for an accurate rifle? I like the portablity of a shorter rifle and if they can be dead nuts like your shooting then winner winner chicken dinner! My son shoots a contender 30/30 with 23 inch barrel
