Are cameras ok on ride alongs?

Straight off the paperwork...

"Officers will not allow participants to enter private homes or other areas where citizen has a reasonable expectation of privacy
without the explicit consent of the citizen. Participants will also not be allowed to photograph and/or videotape within these same areas.

I've been on one with my buddy here. Guy beat the crap out of another guy and all he got was a manslaughter charge. He was barely holding on when we got there and died a day or two later in the hospital. No family or friends to pursue it I think.

Ohp ride a longs are boring unless you like traffic tickets and working accidents!!

Ask the officer your going to ride with about the weapon question not these guys.

Didn't used to be. Provided the ride along was on the osage extension during prime time drunk hour.

Last time I did an OHP ride along they wound up in 2 pursuits with one ending on foot when the douche that ran wadded his car up.

What is the ride-along partner supposed to do during a foot pursuit? Remain in the car?

Also, in the paperwork it says I cannot carry a weapon, I have my CCL so does that matter at all? I would prefer to have it on me if I went.

Any help would be appreciated...

You Want To Go To work with a Law Enforcement Officer, but prefer to be in violation of the 'Paperwork' which is most certainly set forth and written for very obvious reasons.. How would that set you different than any individual that would be recieving a citation while on that ride along?? They recieve a citation for having a taillight out BECUZ IT ULTIMATELY CAUSES A DANGER FOR OTHER CIVILIANS, no matter what thier driving capablility maybe..Your CCL doesn't qualify you to make decisions whether or not to use deadly force in Law Enforcement decisions, and if you truly understood the difference between the two then you wouldn't have started this thread(IMO).. If you want to be armed, in law enforcement situations, then you need to become a law enforcement officer. If you don't feel comfortable being in a law enforcement situation, without a weapon, then you need to become a law enforcement officer, and not expect to be treated special because of your "preference."

I have went on 6 ride-alongs and was always told to wait and observe and was shown a button to push on the radio if something went south. I never felt the need to have a CC weapon with me.

The funniest part of the program was the people having contact with the LEO constantly asking if "you" are an undercover cop... :rotflmao:

Had some fun times. The free food at Bueno was nice as well. Not to mention the unlimited drink refills at the Admiral and Yale QT.. :-)

My most memorable night was after the Nathan Hale prom let out. Nothing better than seeing scared teenagers almost wetting themselves when the LEO had them open the trunk to reveal a massive quantity of beer and hard alcohol. Watching their faces as she made them pour every drop into the street was priceless.

Why the hell would ya need a gun for anyways? Youre with a cop.

My grampa was an indian reservation tribal cop and my dad was an LEO for a bit when he retired from the Marine Corps. I went on more than a few ridealongs. About as exciting as getting a ride from school to home.

I have been on multiple ride alongs for just about every shift in every district in OKC. I happen to know guys in each to be able to do this. When we have had foot chases I was allowed out of the car to Follow and if needed help to detain if other officers had not arrived in time. Never had to, but that was the instruction I was given. I was also allowed to brig my weapon with me and leave it in the car if the officer(friends) didn't already have a backup in the car. I was probably allowed to do more than most. I was also allowed to enter behind when clearing rooms and houses that had been broken into. They are a lot of fun and sometimes boring. Just depends on the time of year, and shift. Winters kinda suck. The cold keeps them in. Right before Christmas you would think would be fun, but you mainly get shoplifters, car crashes(non injury by the malls), auto burglaries. Summer can be a good time. Once had a noise complaint. Show up to find a bunch of high schoolers having a swim party/keg party. Walk into the back yard and are greeted by topless girls drunk out of their mind!!! That's when you wish you had a camera!! Summer also brings the welfare checks that end up being DB's that have been there for a few days with no ac.

All that to say, it's kind of a crap shoot as to whether you will actually enjoy it or not. If you want to be an officer it is worth trying to ride along on all shifts.
