I generally buy older stuff and try to find something that is one or two owner with maintenance records.

My issue is, people don’t reply! I ask a question. Get a one word response. Ask another, no reply. I see the ad get updated and the price dropped at the same time. I have cash and I’m ready to buy but I think this person has decided I’m a “tire kicker”.

Do you have to deal with weird people to get a deal? Or should you just let it go?

If there is a car I want to buy I call or e mail and ask for directions and ask when a good time to come see it.
Chit chat and small talk sometimes works on the internet.

Most of my cars were bought as fixer uppers.
I have lost count of how many but when i was 24 years old I had bought over 250 vehicles and had a piece of notebook paper with all of those cars written down.

I do research a car when i see one kind that peaks my interest.

I will google it .
say 1995 Pontiac vibe issues.
Or pontiac vibe recalls.
Insert your own search vehicle of course.

NO centrifugal transmissions.
NO V6 vehicles unless they are Rear wheel drive and better be from the 70's or early 80's.

Must be easy to get to water pump and timing belt etc.

I would just rather build a basket case.
Bought hundreds of vehicles from wrecker auctions.
Some were just for the parts.

I’m with your plan let me tell you. Problem is I don’t quite have the wrenching skills. I’m looking at a 2001 Camry. Which I really like the year. Low mileage. Clean as a whistle. When you’re used to truck stuff, man a Camry seems easy. Also there’s tons of videos on everything.

You must be a tick younger than I am.
I really expected more mustangs and at least a couple camaro's or Datsun Z cars.

Looks like you had the market cornered on the Trucks.
I have not had very many trucks.
My cars did my hauling with trailer in tow and my first truck was purchased when I was 17.
Gave my dad's fishing/hunting buddy 700 for his 1947 Dodge truck.
My girlfriend got pregnant a few months later and I sold that truck to my fishing/hunting buddy.

One day 10 years later I came home from work and that 1947 Dodge was in the driveway.
My wife bought it from my buddy for a birthday present to me.
Gave him 900 for it.

I still have it and was offered $35,000 for it 10 years ago and told the guy it is not for sale.
Others have offered over 20K for it.
NOT FOR SALE.

Do you have any of those Not for sale vehicles?

I hope this round for the 47 will at least do a little wheelie.

I’ve bought and sold plenty of vehicles through CL. Legit good deals go FAST.

I find that when people are non-commutative or have zero knowledge of the vehicle Id rather just pass.

2001 Camry huh? 2.4 4cl or V6?

4 cylinder. 130k miles. I asked if the timing belt had been replaced and heard nothing else. I kinda get the feeling it’s one of those easily annoyed people that thinks a question means you’re going to lowball.

If no reply my advice is to move on. One thing I've learned in my life is there's always another good deal to be made.
