Just put an ar together and this one has a 14.7” barrel with a pinned flash hider. What weight buffer should I be using in it. It currently has a BCM H2
Is it a heavy barrel? Or a standard or M4 profile? Post a pic? Are you shooting auto or suppressing fire?

If it's not a heavy barrel and/or you aren't in combat on a regular basis doing something to cause bolt bounce enough to break lugs, you probably don't need the H2, but it's not gonna hurt it. A standard weight would be fine...maybe an H if you are wearing it out...maybe.

No suppress, heavy barrel, m4 profile. Yes its gonna be used as my next go to gun. Wasn’t for sure on which one to run, I do have several on hand to try out I guess

isn’t the h2 used for shorter barreled uppers?
If you want...that's what they say on AR15.com or something.

This big bastard is why the H2 became so popular 👇 👇

Bolt bounce...Even an H buffer would have some bounce sometimes. Causes lug breakage, out of battery fires, mis-timing on auto, stovepipe malfunctions, etc. A standard M4A1 barrel in a SOPMOD BLKII would require an H buffer. Guidance we received was use an H or H2. Floated stiffer barrels that are regular or heavy or have sh*t on them to make them heavy (suppressors) can cause bounce.

Suppressing fire is semi auto as fast as you can pull the trigger...not suppressed fire.

We had absolutely no requirement for a heavy buffer for the standard M4A1 at first.

So if you aren't breaking lugs, shooting out of battery, or having failures to extract, eject, doublefeeds and bolt overrides, you're probably good. If you aren't having any issues with the H2 you got, then you're probably good.

Thank you, that helps
