edited to add - Those of you thinking he "lowered his shot"; he lowered it from pointing at the guy's nose to center mass. He didn't give him a Danny Tanner "one to the hip" love tap. He put it center mass, dead in the chest, from point blank. While it didn't cause the guy to be DRT before he got prone, it was deadly enough that he barely survived the ride to the hospital.
Classic case of self defense. Crossed the t's an dotted the i's. Anyone that believes otherwise isn't worth the breath to attempt a change of mind. They are clueless and know not of what they speak.
