36 years and counting. Make sure you are friends, not just romance, not just lust, not just lovers, but friends.
Decide that marriage takes effort on the part of both partners, everyday for the rest of your life.
As to long-term dating relationships and living together, the statistics show that divorce rates are about the same whether you have dated one year or more or one year or less and wheteher or not you have lived together.
When you make the commitment to your partner you have to decide it is permanent.

This is so true. My wife is my best friend and we enjoy spending time together (even though we are together almost all the time).

Don't let anyone fool you, marriage is great.

I don't have to do laundry or clean. She always makes sure that I have plenty of beer during the day before she goes off to work, and takes time to fix dinner before she goes out to her second job.

I did have to break out the pimp hand the other day when she spilled oil on the driveway after changing the oil in my Jeep. Other than that, she has been tolerable the last month or so.

Sure every marriage has some challenges. She doesn't seem to have the time to have sex with me as much since the last set of twins. I understand she gets tired, and tell her to sleep in on the weekends instead of getting up at 5 AM to feed the babies, that is what their brothers and sisters are for. They don't have school, they can help out too!

All in all, been a pretty good decision. She is getting a little pudgy, but I got her a Richard Simmons tape for her birthday. Nothing is too good for the old lady!!

Landed back in the US on March 12th 1991 from Desert Storm, 4 days later met my soon to be wife. Moved in together May 4th 91, received orders in August 91 to return to Germany. Came home that day and told her I had orders to go back to Germany, she asked what was going to happen? I told her she could stay here, or marry me and go along, she said yes, and we were married 19th of October 91. I left in November to Germany an she arrived in country in December 91. Next Tuesday will be 19yrs and counting. Dates, yep we still go on them when we can get away from the kids. Marriage is a working process for both involved, it can never be one sided!!
