i planted 2 plants this year. first time i've ever grown them. university of new mexico (as i remember it) had been selling seeds a few years back and had lots of good advice on handling them. they suggested you never handle them without rubber gloves.
i harvested several last week and bearing UofM's advice i tried to not handle them, put a bowl beneath the pepper and cut the stem with side cutters. i had a good harvest to dry so decided to dry these as well, i put them on the dryer tray and picked them up by the stem, the pads on my thumb and forefinger went numb almost instantly. after drying all the stuff for 3 days i emptied the dryer, i handled the dried peppers by their stem again, no numbness. put them in a baggie and about my business, decided i needed a small pinch twixt my cheek and gums i got a small dip, mistake, mistake, mistake..i'm still "enjoying" the medium burn that transferred off my fingers onto the wolf dip.
need to get rubber gloves
