Before you can have a discussion about "gun control" you have to define what it means (at least in the context of the discussion). I do not want guns in the hands of violent felons or a person that's been adjudicated as mental ill. Does that mean I'm pro gun control? If I'm in favor of UBC, is that gun control. Or is gun control the desire to ban all private gun ownership? The problem I see in most discussions is that "gun nuts" (which would include me) are portrayed as believing that there should be no restrictions on gun ownership. Everyone should be able to own any weapon they want. And any one that is for any form of gun control is a "gun grabber" who wants to disarm all Americans. When these two groups meet, there cannot be any (civil) discussions.
A civil discussion is not dependent upon the opposing arguments but upon the individuals respecting the right of the other to have a different view.
Amen, Uncle. But Ace is right. Defining what you mean when you say "pro gun" is important. I bet no two people here have exactly the same definition of what that means, and that makes it really hard to have a useful discussion.
