I know you don't, just responding to hopefully incite discussion ;)

I completely agree, its hard to kick them out once one opens the door to letting the government regulate.

My stance is name me one thing that the federal government does better than anyone else that isn't required in the Constitution. (For those of you that have not read the Constitution, that would be things like national defense, a postal system and regulating trade and commerce).

Well, I didn't reckon any of them would rise to the occasion.

Visit the democratic underground forums. Be as civil as you possibly can. Use group think and PC talk. Won't matter - you'll be banned within 2 to 3 days if you deign to submit ideas not accepted by the herd.

My point - the folks you want to come out of the closet here won't - mostly because they really aren't here. The very thought of coming to a gun forum and reading the thoughts of those they consider insane at best and pure evil at worst is anathema to them.

There are no gun-control advocates lurking on OSA.

There may be, probably are, some fence sitters. Address your invitation to those who have yet to make up their minds on the issue.

I am a member of MoveOn.org. I even got a couple free (to me) Obama stickers in the mail. (I believe in encouraging the enemy to expend their resources) I get emails about different stuff all the time, 95% of it is socialist garbage, once in a blue moon, they're right. I got on a list of citizens concerned about gun violence, I was supposed to go to a meeting, but couldn't make it.

Chick running the meeting called, and was a nice older lady, but just scared of guns. I used the opportunity to inject a little common sense into her.( I never told her I was a gun-toting neanderthal) I was nice, and wished her luck. Planted a seed, I hope.

IT is ALL about CONTROL. Look at the BLOOMBERG BS in NYC. You can't buy a soda over 20oz because you are fat and don't it and then he tells Letterman, "it all really doesn't matter, as long as you don't mess with my CHEEZ-ITS." 12 oz Coke 160 cal, 0 fat, 60mg sodium - Cheez-its 240 cal, 4gm fat, 310mg sodium.
Don't let FACTS get in the way of your argument. Civility my A$$, it's all about forcing your ideas and controls on others, as long as it doesn't effect YOUR guilty pleasures.
READ 'Animal Farm' , if you can even find it. Been telling the wife to read it. She has been to 4 book stores and 3 libraries, they don't carry it.

Let me tell you about a conversation I had on Facebook. I made a comment that boiled down to: The supreme court has come down on the side of individual right to bear arms, so any gun control law put in place has to keep that in mind.

A long conversation ensued that, surprisingly, remained pretty civil. The thing that frustrated me, that made me want to yell "GET OFF MY SIDE!!!" was one fellow who responded to everything with "Banning all guns isn't the answer!" You could almost see him running around, waving his arms in the air, panicking.

He made this comment in response to discussions of smart gun technology and discussions of background checks and mental health screenings. I tried to discuss each topic - "I need my weapon to be ready to fire before the bad guy kicks open my bedroom door - I don't want to be killed because I'm fumbling for a key or waiting for something to boot up." This encouraged conversation and I think I got my point across as far as why I want my weapon, and why I want it ready to use. However, this other individual responded to the same comment with "BANNING ALL GUNS ISN'T THE ANSWER!!! AHHHHH!!!!"

There were a couple people more than willing to have a reasonable discussion on the subject, but this guy just insisted they were gun grabbers and wouldn't engage at all.

By having a reasonable discussion with two other reasonable people (yes, I understand that them being reasonable too was important), I like to think I at least gave them something to think about. What do you think crazy, screaming guy taught them? Nothing good.
