OU has lost 25 players to the portal, had an absent receiver corps and an O Line that was different every game. Also had two star players opt out of this game.

You are correct on each account. But there is ALWAYS something going on in Norman for some time now. That just seems to be the norm. Why is that ? Who or what will it take to stop this? Seems the successful coaches at OU could put out fires not continue them.😉

Don't think that's much of the issue. I think the portal and NIL has transformed college football into "NFL Lite". That's why Sabin threw in the towel at Alabama and I suspect Stoops also, he could see the train wreck coming.

I've long thought that players shouldn't be allowed to opt out of a bowl game. In the past coaches wouldn't have tolerated it, and publicly scorned those that did. Now they pour accolades over them when they do. Wasn't Stutsman the team captain? That's a problem when that one sits out a bowl game.

Lot of various issues, but the bottom line is that college football is broken and in need of repair.

Alabama has 15
Oregon has 2
Vanderbilt 12
Tennessee 13
Oklahoma State 24

It's going to take more than an a OC change to turn things around in Norman to compete in the SEC.

I've got no idea what needs to happen in stillwater. Gundy has too many winning seasons with so many different coaching staffs. Last year was for sure a dumpster fire regardless.

Part that loss of players was, reportedly, due to some being encouraged to seek opportunities elsewhere. That, also reportedly, is because the NCAA has decreed that the scholarship rosters have to be cut from 105 to 85.

That seems like yet another self-inflicted wound by the NCAA. It’s like they don’t understand that college football is the tent pole that holds up all of the other collegiate sports and they’re doing their damnedest to sink it.

Maybe it will hasten the superconferences’ departure from the NCAA. As openly hostile as their recent actions have been, I wonder how much more the colleges will tolerate.

He was a captain, but, more importantly, he wore the communications helmet and was the defensive play caller on the field.

I can see his point (and Bowman’s), in that this was basically a meaningless game, and there’s a lot of risk of injury, which could have a severe impact on his future. If this had been a playoff game, I think he would’ve played, but that’s just a guess.

FWIW, although I can understand the decision, I still don’t like it.

Same. I get it, but it still sucks. And if he and Bowman, Jr. were on the field, I feel that they win the game.

Even at Virginia, who sucks at football, we lost guys to the portal. I really dont understand some of them, like the QB. He'll never play in the NFL, wouldnt even make 2nd string on most SEC teams. Why would he give up a first rate education for a murky football future?

Worse, it caused our National Championship winning coach in basketball, Tony Bennet, to retire.

Bill Belichick made out like a bandit in NC. $10 million guarantee.
