Why are we even talking about details like this? Who cares? Death doesn't. Children, innocents, have died. And yet you people dwell on what type of firearm was or wasn't used. Where it was found. Details that in the end don't matter. If you want to worry and speculate about stuff shift you're focus to people that you think might have problems dealing with the realites of life....

yukon, it's important for us to understand the details of what happened because as 2A supporters, we need to be prepared to debate those who will use this as a platform for further gun control.

I'm still not even to the point where I want to think about what happened. I haven't watched ANY of the news just because the whole thing turns my stomach. But at some point, I'm sure that I'll encounter someone (even the liberal members of my extended family) who will want to use this as part of their inane rant on why we need to do away with guns. I need to be prepared for that and to make some attempt to logically make a stand and to combat their reckless and uninformed b.s. with well thought out points based in fact.

My problem with the media is, for example this morning, on Good Morning America and I quote "We have learned these guns were attained legally" and that was the complete sentence. By saying that they left it out there as if the shooter was able to obtain the guns legally which was not the case.

You are a lucky man. Ive encounter 60% of my family and friends and have had to explain to them and debate in a professional manner about this situation. I know we all want to the same thing, proper gun control to disallow such people access to firearms but the answer to the wants are not always easy to come up with.

No, I've just been busy with my kids the last couple days and haven't had any time to really get out and around others. I've had a few facebook friends who have made some comments but surprisingly even the liberal ones haven't jumped all over it yet.

I did read this today and really like it:

COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER !!

This is powerful .. . .

COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER !!
Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, everysociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness.. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone! My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

For one, you don't have enough evidence to dispute a father's tears, this includes your President. Regardless of whether you agree with him, please consider respect for a Commander in Chief and father. He has two daughters of his own, I can imagine that would generate tears of empathy at least.

On another note, most of the mass killings are also conducted by "law abiding citizens" who purchase the guns legally. Just check the history of the several incidents in the past 30 years. It would be logical for consideration that something is not quite right when background checks are passing for future mass murderers. Perhaps limiting gun purchases to those who have enlisted in the military could be an interesting option. Of course, this is not a solution. But if gun owners are wanting to protect others, why not have a history of military or a legitimate attempt at military service?

This is the stupidest idea I have heard yet. You sound just like Obama and the other people that want to take away our 2A rights. Why should someone not be able to protect themselves and their families? And that won't stop these things from happening. It's just like people wanting guns banned except for Leo's only. Is that working out for England and Australia? I can't believe you are supposed to support 2nd amendment rights spitting crap out like this.

Bless you for posting that. Also the people talking about video games aren't any better than those talking about guns. The seeds of violence that grow into these types of tragedies are deep in the psyche, not nurtured by hobbies or collections.

It is not the fact that there are bad video games. It is that sorry ass parents let their young children play them. They don't need to blame the games. Blame the parents. I am an adult and like playing some of the ADULT games. They are not meant for children. But I also don't think that games are what is causing these things to happen. If someone wants to do something so horrific they will find a way. No matter what.

Yes it is parenting. Video games are getting a bad rap the same way Ozzy was blamed for teen suicide and slasher movies were blamed for murders. But I'm sure you waited until you were a "legal" age to watch a Freddy Krueger movie. My only complaint with video games nowadays is the language.

kinda like the sorry ass parents who teach kids to shoot. Some will argue that guns or shooting are not meant for children.

Why would I NOT teach my children about firearms and firearm safety, and the responsibility that comes with them. My children will know everything I know about firearms, including how to deploy a firearm as a weapon if needed, that does not make me a sorry ass parent.

Theres that story a few months back about that 14-15 year old girl home alone, hears the back door get kicked in, shes calls her mom, mom says to grab the gun (the gun that her parents had taken her to the range and taught her how to shoot) out of the fathers dresser drawer, the girl went and hid in the closet and when the intruder made his way thru the house and begin to approach the closet, she fired, now if i remember correctly she hit him, he fled, and the cops found him sitting on a curb a few streets over bleeding out.. as much as i HATE "what if' conversations, what if her parents hadn't taught her about firearms.. sorry parenting? Absolutly not, just the opposite if you ask me.
