That is crazy - JEV what gave it away? I used to wear boots all the time but rarely do anymore, except for hunting. All of my boots are old but seem to be holding up well. What I don't want to happen is head off for the field and have this happen. I even have Danners. Gimme a clue what to look for....
I do stuff and know things

@enuf Lol, I couldn't help myself.

After 20 plus years of carrying heavy stuff, you learn what boots do.

I have found that boots with that type of construction with a cemented foamy or shock absorbing midsole and a rubber composite outsole that is all cool looking with its swirls and circles - Tac boots, Hiking boots, Patrol boots, non-hardsole combat boots, the midsole does a few things---> It'll compress, tilt, or collapse over time (or all three) depending on the manufacturer. It will last awhile and have to be resoled (like the boots shop style outside of a military base) as they wear down. It will decompose and fall apart if not used, ie, put in storage and worn once a year, or put in storage for 5 years and taken out, put in your closet for three years and taken out to wear. Hot/cold cycles accelerate it. The outsole will get hard and non-pliable and crack and fall apart. Even good hardsole boots like jungle boots with real rubber will fall apart if not used.
EDIT: Bottom Line, these boots with these types of soles will probably fall apart when they've been stored or not used for a long time.

My recommendation is to ask the seller:
"When is the last time you wore them and how long?"
"When did you get them?"
"How long and where have they been sitting for the last XX years?"
"Why'd you stop wearing them?"

Any of those answers is one year or more, and a long explanation of things and how awesome they were, then they better be $Free.99 IMHO. Or $0 Dollars like @HillsideDesolate said.

I bought a set of Danners at Wilderness Adventurer in Tulsa in 1985 and hunted a zillion miles in Colorado and Wyoming and home, I had Danner resole them several times until the last time I sent them in they returned they had finally rotted out . I bought a pair of Danner Elk Hunters on the way to Wyoming one year in Nebraska at the Cabelas on I 80. I had a lady fit my boots and I wore them around in the store for an hour while goofed around and ate lunch in their diner. Than found the Lady that fit me and she walked me out with the box and checked me out and I wore those boots .for a week hunting with my buddy up there at Laramie. That was probably 15 yrs ago........

This is the toughest hiking boots i ever found around 40+ years ago, i have never seen of a pair ever having the sole come apart or any of the sewen leather coming lose.
Took just wearing them a little at a time over the past 40 years to get them some what broken in.
Their not made anymore and they were only $65 US back then.

So you own a SCAR 16S right? if so tell me how well "Versed" you are about them.
No. Like I said, they are for some folks, and I'm not one of those folks. I have put thousands of rounds on them and MK17s in a past life. You can have them. I'll take a DI gun.

If your feelings are hurt because I said you can have them, sorry. You can have them though. I only have use for a MK17 and that's for professional industry business.

Back to Danners:

Those look like they're recraftable which means they'll probably last for 30 years.

No worries, my feelings don't get hurt very easy. Here are your answers

* Danners - just the other day. Irish Setters, because they are 1200 Thinsulate - not very often and it has been a good long time
* Irish Setters - 25 or 30 year ago. Danners - 15 years ago
* a long time, they sit in my closet
* my feet do not get cold, pretty rare, even in single digit temps so one day I realized that I wasn't sure why I was wearing them; and besides, they are kinda clunky compared to flip flops and tennis shoes (in the winter). I could probably wear my flip flops in the winter too, but would probably have people looking at me sideways.
