I got out early and got in about 3 1/2 hours at Haskell lake before my back and humidity said to stop. Water is still stained but the action was good. I ended up catching about a dozen Gills and 3 little Bass...

Successful tuna trip
Looks like an awesome trip. We are heading that direction next year and will likely book that guide boat or another. We have a friend in Lafayette La that is a big time offshore fisherman. Pure cajun dude that goes out all the time.
Did you have issues with sharks? I've looked at a couple of guide boats in Venice with their pics.
Some of the fish showed shark bites taking off chunks of the yellowfin.

@Jared we did not overnight
Left at 5:30 caught a bunch of poagies for bait and were 60 miles out in 2000’ of water by 8:00. Caught one shark and it wasn’t looking good because the tuna didn’t want poagies. Captain ran to another Mexican Gulf captain and got live hornbeaks and it was on. 11:00-12:30 and we caught our limit. No more room in the fish box. I’ll see if I can post a video of the box shaking from angry tuna.

Day 2 bay fishing may have been more fun. Limit of snapper, 40+ lb cobia, 150 lb hammerhead, bull reds, big jacks all on spinning reels. Captain pulled the hammerhead in the boat for us which I thought was cool as heck. I can’t straighten my left arm from fighting fish.

Thats a great trip, those snappers are jumbos...Cobia is one of my favorites to eat, the filets don't look that great until cooked, like magic they turn to beautiful white, flaky amazing!

Hornbellys are tuna tickets, ya'll would of been free lining a few and tossing a bunch of his buddies in as decoys. My last good trip we caught all but one (was on topwater) of our YFT on hornbellys.

Glad you had a great trip.

'bassin is right though, freshwater fishin will never compare. Big stripers and crappie on the bank bout the only fishing I mess with now and the gulf bears the blame.

How big was the bull red in that picture? My dad fishes for them in San Antonio.

Did you keep the hammerhead? Not sure if it’s legal or even good eating lol. Just curious.
