Well I got a letter from Farm Bureau telling me they aren't renewing my policy so if anyone knows anyone that does insurance, please let me know.

State Farm won't do it because I had a roof put on in 2010, thanks hail...

I do not know of anyone specific for you, but if you look for an independant insurance agent, he will be able to find the best deal for you accross multiple insurance companies.

There's no real secret to shipping insurance aside from calling as many places as you can tolerate and getting quotes and comparing coverages and prices. They will vary wildly from person to person, house to house, company to company as they all have vastly different rating criteria from one another.

If Farm Bureau and State Farm are out, your best best is to probably check with Farmers (I will let someone in OKC recommend an agent as I am in Tulsa), a good independent agent to scour some of their companies (the name of the one I used in OKC is escaping me), the local Liberty Mutual office (call (405) 720-6083 and they'll get you on the phone with an agent in that office), and also call Amica (don't be scared by their call center, they are one of the highest rated insurers for service and claims, and also had the best quote on my house when I changed over within the last 90 days), and USAA if you are eligible.

Others have good luck with Shelter and Allstate, but I won't do business with the due to past experiences with claims. YMMV of course.

Partial disclosure: I work for an insurance company, and it is one of the ones listed above as they are fairly competitive, but since I didn't recommend one any more than the others, I'll keep it to myself for now. I don't use them for my home but they did quote me this summer and it wasn't outrageous. I went with Amica, which is not who a work for; and not necessarily an endorsement but wanted say who was the most competitive coverage per dollar for me. Again YMMV.

Oh, and the OK Farm Bureau thing isn't just you. From what I hear in the industry, they are going though a massive underwriting philosophy change and non-renewing LOADS of people right now.

From what I understand (this isn't verified fact, but I believe it to be accurate), they decided to alter or drop (not sure which) their reinsurance, which is the insurance that pays them back if there is a catastrophe of losses (such as large hail storms, tornado, hurricane, etc.). Then we had hail move in several years in a row and they didn't have the reinsurance they were used to having in the past.

Yea, still sucks, but don't take it too personally.

i went to liberty mutual from ofbm, very pleased

Same here, actually beat the independent agent but he was the only one who came close to LM for home and auto. Just an fyi, OFBM told me they would renew my homeowners if I transferred my auto to them, but the cost was ridiculous. They have dropped a lot of policies, they dropped their reinsurers policy and were self insuring and it came back to bite them.
