I hate Plumbing, appliance work and electrical work. However when possible I do it myself. No matter what 1/2 hour is exceedingly good, it is a perfect situation, almost a clean installation were everything is perfect, assuming you have the proper tools, no issues with the old hardware coming apart, nothing breaks, nothing has to be cut or re-routed, and no additional trips to the store for tools or parts. An hour and a half very good! Pat yourself on the back, you are part of the I just saved $100 to $200 crowd. Home appliance repairs can be a nightmare too, but well worth DIY. I have saved $100's if $1,000's fixing appliances on my own. A $50 part can cost you $300 to have a guy come out and fix it, and they will sell you the $50 part for $175. It may take you a day or two, a "professional" two weeks and waiting around for your scheduled time. Kudos to you.

I got you beat. Took me 3 months to replace my garbage disposal. Although in the mean time I also tore out all the sheet rock, cabinets, and flooring in the kitchen. All new sheet rock, insulation, wiring, cabinets, sink, plumbing, and disposal. The actual disposal part took me 3 hours because I had to go to lowes twice for plumbing parts.

At the end of the day, you saved money doing it yourself, and that is worth it in my book.

It just took me an hour and a half to put a new garbage disposal under the kitchen sink! According to everything I have read it should take about 30 minutes. In my defense…. It was my first. Ugh. Do I feel stupid.
No, you are not 'stupid' in the least. All jobs, from the simplest to the most complicated require a thoroughly thought out plan to complete. For myself, I can sit and think on something for several hours, days, weeks, and even years before tackling it. Thus the adage "Rome was not built in a day." 😊

The only people that haven't had that happen, are people that have never tried to do anything themselves! My dad was a smart guy, one of his favorite saying was, " if you need advice on raising kids, just ask someone that has never raised any! "

Yeah you never want to use a garbage disposal with a septic system. Its bad enough when you have a dish washer.
Just curious why. I've used a garbage disposal the last 10yrs with a septic tank, no issues. There's only me and the misses and we watch what goes in there (usually), plus used the dishwasher.
