if you train men not to be rapists, we can prevent rape

Sooner years ago I worked as a bouncer and one of the bars I worked at was a gay bar. I got along well with most of the people that hung out there including some of the women. One afternoon a bunch of us were just hanging out and one of the ladies was listening to a taped speech by the leader of a women's group that advised it. The reason I remember it so well is because it royally pissed off all of the women in the group I was hanging out with, some of whom had been raped and abused. You do not forget something like that if only because the woman that owned the cassette player smashed it into a tree so hard we had to take her in for stitches when it shattered and cut her hand.

Now you can say no women's group would ever say it and even poke fun at me, but I know I heard it and several women I know including my wife remembers hearing it sometime or other in their life. If I can find it on the web I will post a link but I am not sure that even if I do you will believe it.

If you provide actual proof... well, of course I'd believe it. That's why it's called "proof." However... I have a suspicion that you and I may differ quite a bit on what would constitute proof of such a wild statement.

What I suspect you remember is either a comment made by someone who was NOT a representative of a "left wing women's group" or a comment made by such a person advising women not to fight back - because "don't fight back" has indeed been common advice for a very long time. But no, without some pretty serious proof, I do not and will not believe that any "left wing women's group" ever advised women to "lie back and enjoy it."

Look, here's the thing... If you're trying to say that the GOP isn't any worse than the Dem's when it comes to saying stupid things about rape... well, you're just flat wrong. NOBODY outdoes the GOP when it comes to saying stupid and offensive things about rape. Of course, the Dems outdo anyone else when it comes to stupid things to say about guns - such as the video that started this thread. I mean... "The shoulder thing that goes up???" What compares with that as far as stupid things said about any topic? Nothing. Nothing compares with that - that is the gold standard for saying stupid things about any topic.

Both sides are pretty bad... but trying to play false equivalency when it comes to a specific topic? Not gonna work.

I keep telling myself to leave this thread alone, then I peek in, and then I'm all

Now, does that include the whole Feminist narrative - that I had to hear for four years running at my rather liberal college campus - about how gender relations in general are characterized by force and violence and that, in effect, nearly all man-woman sexual activity could reasonably be called "rape"? I guarantee you that there wasn't a single Republican or Conservative in the so-called Women's Studies or Gender Studies departments that came up with such drivel. Yet, it is not just spewed by a politician or two but is the intellectual underpinning for entire university departments and degree programs. Sorry doc I think that has a few wayward pols topped.

You know, last night I wrote a carefully researched reply, then realized it wasn't going to make a bit of difference. I can't prove a negative and I wouldn't even need my entire hand to count the number of people who would have read it all the way through.
So, I'm going to exit this thread.

Wow, I actually feel bad now. I wrote what I thought was an indictment of the reams of feminist nonsense, posing as scholarship, I had to wade through at college as a counter-point to a few (admittedly stupid) remarks by a small number of Republicans as a way to show that on-balance the Democrats have a much worse record of "stupidity" on this issue. However, I never intended to drive anyone out of the discussion.

Ok...REALLY my last post in this thread. I promise.

Mugs, YOU didn't drive me out... I drove myself out when I realized that the post I had just written was a huge waste of my own time and everyone else's. This is not going to be the place to discuss the finer points of 1970's feminist philosophy. :chat:

So, it wasn't you at all. There was nothing at all wrong with your post, my feelings aren't hurt and I'm not mad.

I just think it's best to let this thread die a natural death.

And.... I'm outa here!
