You know, there are some people in this country who think an official day marking the official legal declaration of the end of enslaving other human beings under a whip like animals actually means something and is worth noting, or even celebrating. I know I do.

How do you feel about Memorial Day or Veteran's Day?

yep. It's not like they just picked a random day in order to sell some holiday cards. There is an actual historic event associated with it, even if it's not commonly known.

I’d like to know how important Juneteenth was last year and if anyone did anything to celebrate it? The freeing of slaves by the republicans from the Democrats should be celebrated. Some blacks are now thinking for themselves and leaving the Democratic plantation of welfare entitlements. Unfortunately, many of them and an increasing number of white people are like sheep that only matter when it’s time to vote.

Lots of people likely celebrated it. I know there are annual events in my part of the south.

And, IIRC, the white house even issues annual proclamations about it or some such.

Freedom is there for all, but not through the efforts of mortal man. It wasn't purchased in a constitution, on a battle field in Virginia, on the sands of Iwo Jima or Omaha, and certainly not on the streets of Seattle today. True freedom and peace comes only through the cross.....and that holiday is celebrated as Easter.

It is strange that it commemorates a day when folks in Texas belatedly got the news about the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the war. It can take a long time to get the news.
