Anybody ever hunt Lexington after rifle season with a bow?

The last time I was down there about 7 years ago, they had planted lots of food plots.

Anybody know if they still put in food plots.

I'd think after the controlled hunts, that place should settle down...

What say you...?

There's a resident biologist who works down there. You can get his number (I didn't write it down and don't remember it) from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (405-521-2739). I talked to him recently and he seems like a nice guy. Helpful and knowledgeable. He'll probably tell you anything you need to know. He works for you. He wasn't in when I called. I left a message and he called me back that same day.

Rex is a good guy. He will not tell you where he has planted though. You have to do your own scouting. It does settle down some, but the rabbit, quail and squirrel huters come out so expect to get your hunt interrupted sometimes.

They did not get the food plots planted last year - don't know about this year.

I was wondering how the controlled hunts went. The 4th & final one was today. Someone posted here that the 1st day had over 100 hunters and only six deer tanken. not too good, eh?

There's no way that the Lexington WMA can be an enjoyable experience with that many people putting pressure on it and each other. Maybe it gets better the farther away you get from the metro areas. I think if I started hunting again I'd dedicate a couple of weekends in the late summer to drive around the state and meet face to face with as many small land owners as I could. I'd take my gloves and my boots with me and offer my time and my sweat in exchange for some friendship. Or, maybe I'd just go hang out at Atwoods and offer to carry bags. ;)
