Well, I’ve always wanted a 30 caliber lever gun. The seemingly perfect one fell into my lap last week. I am friends with a business owner and his customer couldn’t pay a debt so he took a 30-30 in as payment. I stop by his office a couple times a week just to shoot the craps. This time he had a 30.30 sitting in the corner and asked me if I’d be interested in buying it. I looked it over and originally said no thanks but after some thought, I called him and said “ok how much do you want for it?”. He says to make an offer so I say “well, it looks pretty old but in pretty good shape too. So how about $400?” He said ok deal!
So here I am with what I later find out to be a pretty rare piece. 1969 Westernfield 740. All original screws, butt pad, no crazy initials or engravings anywhere. Pretty slick old iron.
After cherishing it for only 3 days, I went ahead and passed it down to my 13 year old. I’ve been wanting to give him something nice for a while. I mean, he has a couple modern rifles and a shotgun but I figured this would be the perfect dad to son heirloom.
Anyways, thanks for reading and I’d appreciate any comments or thoughts on how I did with the whole experience. Yes I did check the serial number to make sure it was clean.
