More rounds vs higher caliber?

For many years I carried a Beretta 85 in my carry satchel,,,
A few years ago I swapped it out with a Beretta 81 I got from Classis Firearms.

I liked the idea of 12 rounds of .32 ACP,,,
Over 9 rounds of .380 ACP.

One more triple-tap to defend myself with

I do know several people who carry .22 semi-auto's for self defense,,,
Whether that's a good idea is always up for debate.

My 77 year old sister wants to start carrying,,,
Since her husband can not carry anymore.

We have tried and she absolutely can't handle more than a .22,,,
Well she can handle my little Taurus 25-PLY in .25 ACP,,,
But in reality it's no better than a HV .22 round.

I'm going to take her to the range with one of my Kel-Tec P-17 pistols,,,
16+1 rounds of a nasty HV .22 round is nothing to sneeze at,,,
I believe that 40 grain Mini-Mags should do the trick.

My sister will practice enough to become proficient handling the pistol,,,
But she'll never have the hand strength to handle any centerfire,,,
Even that mild shooting Beretta 81 jumps out of her hands.

Not ideal,,,
But I believe it's the best compromise.

The reason I'm recommending the Kel-Tec,,,
Is that mine have proven to be very reliable.

Both pistols have over 1,000 rounds each,,,
With no malfunctions at all.

Even using el-cheapo bulk ammo from Wal Mart,,,
Those pistols just keep on spitting bullets,,,
And they are very easy to clean.

I wish she could handle at least a .380 ACP,,,
But any gun is much better than no gun,,,
And 17+1 rounds beats 10 any day..

When my EDC 1911 is empty, I will be done shooting, but.. Guess I should go practice in case there are more than eight of them. How does that hatchet throwing thing work? 1911 butt to the forehead should slow #9 down a little, right?

But, in reality, I do not practice to miss a few or any and just get by. I practice each shot to hit dead center as close as I can.

What I am saying and I think others are saying. Lots of shots are not quite as good as being able to precisely place single shots, what ever caliber, 22-45 where you want them in all conditions. Not spray and prey.

While a more powerful round is a good thing in my opinion, I pocket carry a Beretta Tomcat in .32ACP during the work week. The low recoil makes followup shots a breeze and to me, putting the most amount of rounds on target in the shortest amount of time is a priority. That being said, while I am happy with my Tomcat, I did order a Kahr CW380 this weekend.

More rounds. That being said, practice for efficiency with what you have. I carry an LCP most of the time just because it's easy to forget it's there. Probably one of the most difficult shooting guns I own, but I'm confident in my skills if the need arises.

I feel better prepared with my Glock 30sf 10 rounds of 45 acp vs higher count of 9mm. But that's just me.
