I've spent this whole damn evening reading about this carbine and the 44mag round. The more I read, the more I'm intrigued by this rifle.

If I remember correctly, the serial # puts the rifle in the '70s.

It also sounds like it was designed for the 240gr round. Some stats have put it at 1500fps & 1100ftlbs @ 100yds coming from a rifled barrel.

It was also Ruger's very first long gun as well as the first semi-auto 44mag.

Sounds like a really cool rifle.

Yep 1961, No. 1's in 1967 and the M77's in 68'.

My buddy told me they stopped making them with the tube mag in the 70's because some guy got on top of a building in New Orleans and started slaying people until a police helicopter arrived with a 50bmg

Well....who got it? If I had the money I would have been there too, those Ruger carbines have excellent reputations. I've got a .44 magnum Winchester 94 that I love so that Ruger would make a great addition, hopefully someone here picked it up, you very rarely ever see them come up for sale.

I wish I would have taken a longer look at it now.

For those that are interested, there was also an 1895 in 45-70, at least 2 M1 carbines, and a nice looking Nylon in the same rack.

Fighting the urge to go back............

By any chance did you catch the prices of the 1895 - 45/70's?
