Officer uses knife during fight with suspect

Tulsa, Okla. —
A Tulsa police officer is forced to use a knife to stop a suspect early Sunday morning.

Tulsa police tell KRMG an officer had to chase a suspect on foot after a short vehicle pursuit near Edison and Union.
The incident began around 12:45 a.m. during a routine traffic stop.

Police say the suspect pulled into a driveway, got out of his vehicle and started to run.

The officer caught the black man and activated his emergency button.
TPD states the two began to fight and the officer was able to use his knife to stab the suspect and then take him into custody.

After the incident, the suspect was transported to a Tulsa hospital.
Police say the suspect had non-life threatening injuries.

It's not regulation for officers to carry knives on them.

TPD states it's not uncommon for officers to carry knives anyway.

I hope they don't try to hang him for having a non regulation piece of gear on him.

I think the guy should be lucky the officer didnt use his gun. I also hope the knife dosnt create a problem.

A knife for an officer is a very common back up weapon. It doesn't say if there was a problem getting to his gun or if he was in danger of losing it or had lost it.

If they even try to discipline him for this it will be outrageous. Fact is a suspect was fighting back & surely would have hurt the officer to get away given the chance. Shouldn't matter what tool the officer uses to stop the suspect at that time. suspect has chosen to resist arrest & fight the officer, they get whatever they get at that point IMO anyway.
