A Tulsa police officer is forced to use a knife to stop a suspect early Sunday morning.
Tulsa police tell KRMG an officer had to chase a suspect on foot after a short vehicle pursuit near Edison and Union.
The incident began around 12:45 a.m. during a routine traffic stop.
Police say the suspect pulled into a driveway, got out of his vehicle and started to run.
The officer caught the black man and activated his emergency button.
TPD states the two began to fight and the officer was able to use his knife to stab the suspect and then take him into custody.
After the incident, the suspect was transported to a Tulsa hospital.
Police say the suspect had non-life threatening injuries.
It's not regulation for officers to carry knives on them.
TPD states it's not uncommon for officers to carry knives anyway.
