Old Hank Parker has some advice if you want to jump into traditional bow hunting. Last year I fired 8 warning shots at deer with my recurve!
Holy Chit!!! I had no idea how deep this rabbit hole could get. I asked a question on an archery message board yesterday that gave me further info to research. I feel like I’m already getting in way deeper than I need to since I have no idea if my arm can even handle it yet.

I had a cancerous tumor removed from my right forearm in 1991. Dr took a 2x4 chunk, almost 1/2" thick.
Haven't been able to pull my compound, since then. Gave it to D-i-L, 10 years ago.
Granddaughter took it, not long after.
I had always felt that a crossbow was cheating. I bought one and used it for 4 years. Granddaughter asked to "borrow" it and I haven't seen it since. She is having fun and success, so I'm good.
The Fauci / Gates biohazard pretty much wiped out anything beyond a trip to the range.

I've been on the disabled hunt 4 times. Ruptured bicep tendon that had to be re-attached. Limited ability to pull a bow so got the disability permit required back in the day.
Any cross bow is allowed, not just recurve.
Not many hunters get the nod for that hunt. It's hot as hell with humidity in the 80-90% range every day. Not much success is the result.
I hated the draconian rules, but acknowledge they are required to keep order.
Quit putting in for those early hunts. The rut is when one wants to be on that property.

I LIVE in east Texas, so hot as hell and 90% humidity is my jam.
NW Oklahoma ain’t much better. The temp when I got in the stand October 3rd, 2024 was in the mid 90’s, and I had sweat running down my buttcrack when I shot my buck.
The long and short of it for me is if I can’t shoot a recurve I’m out, because I’m not disabled unless being a dumb@ss counts. I don’t have insurance now but did when I hurt my arm.
