Actually, the Escort does count signals in expert mode. The GPS works great. I've never had it false in a location that I've locked out.

Growing up in Springfield in the '70s, we all knew to drive the limit in Christian County. Sheriff Buff Lamb was rumored to have cracked the head of more than one driver just for sporting long hair and driving a muscle car.
To this day, I still slow down to the limit when I see the Christian County sign.

Another +1 for Beltronics. Mine has always worked great. It even picked up laser one time, and the one time it did, it was too late. I never expected to be able to avoid getting busted by laser, so I don't consider that a flaw at all.
Radar detectors are only as good as the person using them. Best thing to do after getting a new one is to drive at the limit for a few days while you learn how it reacts.
Worse mistake I've made is offering to bring along my radar detector on a long trip where I wasn't the driver. I eventually shut the thing off, because the guy would hit the brakes every time it made any noise. That's part of the reason I say to drive around with it on first. Another is so that you don't get the sudden feeling like you're untouchable and wind up getting in trouble.
And for those jumping on the subject regarding why we choose to find ways to avoid getting caught breaking speed limits. If you have any REAL statistical data that remotely suggests that speed limits can help the amount of traffic accidents, I'd love to see it. To date, everything I've seen suggests the contrary. Without the numbers, opinions like that are pure speculation.

Well I have a passport 8500 X50 on my car and my wife have a 9500ix GPS. We love it but really doesn't matter how good is your radar, the officers out there has some other method to calculate your speed without using a radar gun, that what I was told by an OHP lives 6 doors down from my house and he's my good neighbor. I don't think he lied to me.

A stop watch and two points on the road a known distance apart is all it takes. Basic math. Velocity=Distance/Time - if the cop knows how to divide he can figure out how fast you're going.
Don't know if it'd hold up in court though because of the human variable involved.
Stopped using radar 11 years ago - no tickets since.
Flashing lights in rear view mirror are pretty self-explanatory, I don't need a radar above the mirror to beep as well to tell me I'm busted.
