Running the red on a motorcycle...

I know there are riders on this forum, and I know some of them have had proper training and know how to trigger the lights, but you know there is going to be one out of a hundred who will miss use this law, and end up as road kill. .

I'll bite, whats the secret? I have ridden for almost 30 years and I am still trying to figure it out!

my first bike (1975 Yamaha Enduro 125)

At 14 when I got my motorcycle license that the first bike I could ride out on the road legal. My first bike ever though at about 5 was a little Honda mini trail and we also had a couple of little Benelli mini's. My dad was an old skool biker from the 50s who rode around on old Indians and old beatup Harleys and ran a body&paint shop so we always had stuff to ride around like motorcycles,go-carts,etc.

I'm sure I'm not the only rider who took a right, pulled a u and made another right just to avoid running the red even when there was no traffic in sight.

I do think it's a good law and if written properly doesn't absolve any responsibility for ensuring it is safe to do so.

It has nothing to do with weight. The person who was instrumental in writing this bill for Oklahoma is a customer of mine and does not ride, however; I do. It has everything to do with the amount of ferrous metal needed to trip the circuit. Some of the plastic cars wont trip it either. I for one believe it is a good and needed law to keep law enforcement from writing a rider who is acting safely but doesn't want to wait at the light until a car comes by.

I put 15,000 miles a year on a bike all over the country and its true that some lights will not trip regardless of how you position your bike. But in 30 plus years of riding, I've never been cited for this. Stopped a few times, yes. But the LEO's have all been very understanding about it. If you are dumb enough to just run a red light without stopping and checking opposing traffic. You too dumb to be riding. Unfortunately, nobody has to pass and IQ check to ride or drive.

Good law. There are lots of cops with common sense who wouldn't write you up, but also a lot of ********* out there who I'm sure have written tickets for it. This will keep them from doing that.

I can see the point of the law, but a better solution would be to fix the lights so that bikes trip them.

I will say that if some EKjr runs a red, hits my wife and causes her any harm, he better hope he dies in the crash.

Does anyone have the bill number so I can look up the text? I was under the impression that this measure failed.

Is it just me or do some of you guys rev your motors to try and cycle the light... I'm sure it doesn't do any good, but it makes me feel better about it.
