it looked pretty skinny maybe needed a meal for herself and babies. the whole time I was thinking couple of those baseball sized rocks to the dome and she would probably change her mind
Exactly what I was thinking. Well, other than "Dude! Where's your bear spray and gun?" And did you notice that's what got her to turn and run? Dude finally chucked a rock.

Yeah, I wondered throughout the whole thing why he wasn't tossing rocks. He had plenty readily available!
Maybe one hand was busy shooting the video and the other one was protecting his jewels.

He was smart and did not bend down until it was safe to do so. Wildlife experts and game wardens have said he did pretty much everything right. Standing tall, making noise, not picking up a rock until he could kind of lean to the side and scoop one up. It would have been better if he was not so concerned about filming it and maybe played some loud music to help scare it off sooner.

Oh and he backed away instead of turning and running. Kitty would have been all over him if he acted like prey.

Here, but occasionally There.
Didn't Senator Coburn get an amendment to some bill that allowed carrying a firearm in National parks? If this guy was in a state park, it probably wouldn't matter.

But, I agree with RickN. If they guy had knelt down too soon or too far, the cat could have considered him "smaller prey" and attacked more ferociously. I have heard or read that if one has a jacket with oneself, to hold it above one's head to make one seem even larger to the cat.

Now, that said, I've never "tested" that theory, and I've been in woods a lot in my life.

Yes Coburn stuck a rider into the Obamacare legislation that allows carry in National Parks.
Corps of Engineers properties still do not allow carry although there is a move to change that going on.
State parks have their own regs depending on the state they are in.
