Fairfax, Va. – The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever happening again. We attended today's White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals.

We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners - honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation's most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works - and what does not.

Anyone Surprised?

I just saw two of the attendees interviewed. From the sounds of it, it's only a dog and pony show and not a good show at that. Sounds like they have already decided what the "solutions" are and are just going through the motions. They backed this statement from the NRA.

Its on. This is going to be a fight up to the last minute before the vote.

My guess is that there won't be a vote.

From this article

http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/...-recs-coming-by-tuesday?lite&ocid=msnhp&pos=1

comes one of the scariest quotes I have read yet.

"Biden raised some conservatives' eyebrows yesterday when he said that the administration is considering possible executive action in addition to legislative solutions.

"The president is going to act," he said during a session with gun control groups Wednesday. "There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken."

I wonder what the odds makers in Vegas are saying. I think that BO is going to EO us and there won't be a damn thing we can do about it.

You can't make new laws through executive orders. Clinton tried it and the courts shut him down. That doesn't mean he won't try some type of "reclassification" under existing law. I don't think it will be anything like an assault weapons ban, but maybe he could go after lead in ammunition or make things tougher in some other way. Either way, nothing is likely to happen immediately as there will likely be an injunction if he tries anything drastic and it will have to make its way through the courts.

Don't expect too much out of the Negotiated Rights Association. They have been involved with all previous legislation that compromised gun owner rights.

Ancient history Dawg. Please tell us anything that the NRA has done to compromise gun owner rights lately? Please tell us how they were involved in the 1994 ban?

Like them or not, the NRA is our best chance of lobbying against any new laws and they have been VERY effective in the last two decades.

As much as I hate "the lesser of two evils", I'll take the NRA over any other lobbyist group on the hill right now. I hope they fight the good fight. I might even donate some more money tonight for the cause.
