Hey All,

My wife and I were out wedding anniversary shopping yesterday. I thought I could get the wife to tell me or to hint to me, what she might like....didn't happen.

I did come across a Tag Heuer watch that I like, but would like some input about the model of watch and about Tag Heuer.

Not knowing anything about Tag Heuer, can you give me some positive or negative feedback. Especially on this model, Tag Heuer Aquaracer-Automatic Calibre 5.

I'm very familiar with Rolex & Omega....just not Tag Heuer.

*****Also, are there any on-line watch dealers, or watch shops that you trust and have done business with?? How does a person know if its a real watch they're buying, and not get taken??

A person can save some money( price and taxes) buying online, just how does a person know which online dealer to trust??

Thanks!!

I'd only buy one of their quartz models. All the Automatic versions that I have seen have plastic spacers (for lack of a better term) between the movement and the case. They dont fit tight enough to prevent slop. Personally I'd rather a Seamaster, Superocean, or even a Citizen

I have had a tag for 8 years and it has been a great watch. the finish has held up well. The first time it went in the ocean it quit working. The dealer i bought it from sent it back for me and they took care of it with no problem. I will say though that me wife bought me a Tissot t-touch last Christmas and I seldom wear the tag anymore. the Tissot has alot of cool gadgets (altimeter, compass, etc.) It came from Mitchener and Farrand on N may and Wilshire. Great guys to deal with and cheaper than a tag.

The TAG watches are nice, but not my thing. I currently own/wear Movado, Gucci, and Bulova. My next watch purchase will be a Cartier or Omega Seamaster. I've never cared for Rolex, either.

If you're looking for service after the sale, I wouldn't go with an online shop. They are unauthorized dealers and Tag will not perform warranty work on those watches.

From Tag's site: "TAG Heuer does not sell authentic TAG Heuer watches on the Web. Therefore, a watch purchased on the Web from any other retailer may be counterfeit, damaged, tampered with, or contain inferior parts."

Overall I've heard good things about them.

My wife bought me a mint condition used used TAG professional for our first Christmas together. It is not an automatic so once every 3 years it winds up going off for a battery replacement to their USA authorized service center in new jersey(Tulsa has no authorized TAG technician even at moody's their retail outlet here)

I had a case seal issue even though I was not the original purchaser because it is an authentic TAG they warrantied it free of charge, the person it was purchased from received it as a gift and did not like it so sold it within 3 months of it's purchase date.

I like the watch style and TAG has been top notch the couple of times I have dealt with them. I have no experience with their automatic lines

There are a lot of better choices for a quality Swiss watch. Tag is the result of clever marketing. It didn't sell well, so they raised the prices to make it seem more exclusive. If I was buying, Tag wouldn't be very high on my list.

With a few exceptions, most Swiss watches are owned by a couple of companies. Swatch group and Movado group are the biggest, and own about every brand you have or haven't heard of. Most Swiss watches use ETA movements (ETA is owned by Swatch). The more expensive brands (Breitling, for example) customize the movements.

I wouldn't spend a lot of money on a quartz watch (a few hundred max). Any more than that and you're just paying for the branding. The whole point of the price is for the workmanship and mechanical movement.
