Received a Midway USA sales "newspaper" this week. Leupold scope on the front for $1,539 and a Vortex on the back page for $2,249. Shipping included!!!! I made very good money as an engineer b4 I retired back in 2014. Maybe knock 20% off these prices for 10 year ago prices. Maybe for that once in a lifetime safari in Africa or hunt in Alaska I might have considered paying that much money, but as of today I don't think I would spent that kind of money. To me, it is NOT about what I own, it is about the experience in life. If you choice to spend your money that way, thanks for supporting the "economy".
I personally believe that an excellent rifle should be matched with the highest quality scope that a person can afford primarily because one a scope is mounted on a weapon the product of the quality with respect to accuracy and dependability combination is what’s important. For years, I’ve hunted with AR15 platforms due to my fused wrists and right elbow which is fixed at 90 degrees. and limited flexibility of my fingers. I operate the trigger with my middle finger on my right hand. I use Trijicon ACOG fixed 4x Scopes because they are rock solid with etched glass reticles and tritium optical center of the reticle that only glows noticeably as the light dims. AR style rifles provide a pistol grip which allows me to hold the stock against my shoulder. My scopes cost about $1400 each.

Somebody skilled enough (the minority) or gullible and vain enough (the majority) to think they need a $7000 scope, this is America, people, home of conspicuous consumption.

I am neither, have no problem admitting that first point, and only scopes owned or used are 6oz rugged fixed power 2.5x Leupolds which are brighter than my eye can dialate in low light, any extra brightness wasted...the mini ACOG 1.5x and 3x with their ruggedness and generous eye relief also work just fine for me.

I grew up around Leica and Zeiss cameras, appreciate fine optics, but I am not taking photos or filming where those media can tell differences my eyes cannot, nor have I ever fired on anything past 100yds that was not an enemy soldier or static target, I always hunted woods and no plains long range sniper.

I bought an $8000 IR scope a few years back because I thought it was cool, and it was, but really had no need and it went away, and a head mount monocular would have likely served far better, and still no real need past one in a million.
