How much will our economy benefit from everyone who did not have health care now having it?

Will likely be offset by the larger number of people that had quasi-affordable coverage and a plan tailored to their needs who now have to buy a more expensive policy that has extra coverage they don't need.

The people who did not carry insurance before were largely those with severe and continuing health problems making health insurance unobtainable and those younger folks that are gambling that they won't need it. Why the hell they didn't just focus on subsidizing only the high risk, uninsurable citizens to a median level instead of subsidizing tens of millions more of regular folk is beyond me. Seems a much cheaper way to insure the uninsurable while letting people keep coverage that is more closely tailored to their needs.

Because this has never been about affordable health care. It is a stepping stone to a single payer system. It is what Obama has said on numerous occasions what he wants the country to have. You know, that fundamentally changing America thing.

Why didn't the Republicans come up with a greater idea for reform for healthcare instead of letting us get stuck with this one?

See gl55's post above.

Because the reform wasn't about reform, it was about a path to single payer. No plan the Repubs could've come up with would have been considered or passed.

I can hardly tolerate Sean Hannity, but it was interesting all of the clips he played of Obama saying just that - that the ACA would be a "stepping stone" to a single payer system. He said it numerous times. He also said that "Canada also had to go through a transition phase", and something along the lines of "we can't eliminate employer-supplied coverage immediately" His plan is working, and working well. And "the people" have no say in it.

Exactly and every change the Republicans tried to put in during the ramming and after has been headed off by the Dems. That is one of the reasons the Dems will not do the normal budget process, they know it would give Republicans a chance to make changes.

As for the OP, the Median Household Income is down 4.4% already under Obama, this is just another nail in the coffin.

As Kathleen Sebelius said yesterday "Don't do this to me"

What part of "rammed through" don't you get? Repubs were not included nor would any of their ideas made it through the democratic congress. When one party controls everything, we get **** laws like this. Gridlock is much preferred to flying legislation through. IMO.

Freaking politicians could'nt care less if the American people have affordable health care. It's all about power and voting blocks. I'm just wondering when if ever the American people will ever wake up and smell the taxes. I don't believe that our forefathers would have ever put up with the taxation that is now being heaped upon us, and according to Justice Roberts that is what parts of the ACA is. We are now and have been the subjects of our own government and this ACA is just another nail in the coffin of freedom.
