It was the federal stimulus program and nothing more, I know this as fact.

I have no doubt that the federal stimulus played a role in this situation, but I also believe that something could have been done to mitigate the backup, delays and congestion on EVERY major route in town. This situation has turned into a Hungarian goat rope.

Heres the catch between good planning/design and poor planning/design when there are many millions of dollars to be had. POLITICS.
That is the simple reason for the scheduling of the Tulsa projects as they are today. We...I mean ODOT, would and have always given consideration to construction times with reguard to school schedules, conflicting projects/alternate routes, and even migratory birds.
Obama gave OK XX billion dollars to spend on "shovel ready" projects and we had literally 3 month to let these projects to recieve funding WITH the stipulation that they began work within a near timeframe. The intent was to creat jobs when what actually happened is we employed every single OK contractor almost overnight with several large contracts still to let so all these small time, out of state contractors came crawling up employing many non OK companies. The tulsa city counsil and other suits pushed hard to get this money in their districts and it happened.
With no reguard to how ODOT "normally" would schedule and operate such an undertaking.

We at ODOT really do know what we are doing and work for the beterment of all comunities, we are also restricted by the funding and politics day to day.

We design our pavements for 30 years and bridges for 100 years. Many of the old bridges being replaced today are pushing or are over 80 years old.

I remember when I244 between 169 and downtown was redone back in the 90's I was a delivery driver and had to drive it almost every day coming back into town. And now they are resurfacing again. It didn't make it 30 years before it went to ****.
