Thanks to OSA I fully support suburbanite social engineering. I think the government should pick your job for you. If you don't go to work, if you complain about your job or use your phone during work you should be arrested. If you shut off your mind and go to work then you won't have any problems with the authorities.

No, sir. I'm advocating for the destruction of the workforce that Conservatives here want for schools. BTW, I'm for the girls removal from the school by the teacher, principal, football coach, her parents, another kids parents, the students, YOU or a passing homeless guy if she wasn't forced to be there in the 1st place. Secondly society has declared that phones(with sound off) are not a distraction anymore. Cell phones are little entertainment centers that most parents make they're kids take to school. And most parents give them right back if they were confiscated. The distraction is stopping class for a kid that's looking at a phone. Laptops and phones are life in education now and just sitting there quietly like you did back in the day isn't. The rules have to change with technology and to allow kids that want to be in school to not have to sit next to someone who doesn't.

Rules on phones are of course an issue of local control. If a district has a policy that addresses the dos and don't s of its use by students and approved by the district BOE students must live by that or face the defined consequences for it. Failure to adhere to the defined consequences opens the door for other violations beyond that. If this girl pulled such a stunt with a written board policy in place she must adhere or take what goes with that violation. When and if she refused she then likely, violated other conduct polices and things for her likely got worse by the minute.
This is all a great example of LOCAL CONTROL. If parents, students, family don't like those rules MOVE. Any administration and BOE worth their salt will have any policy of this kind subjected to legal council before passing it. Local control is a wonderful thing but it is regularly tested by the legal system. Never and I mean never give that control up. Feds and bad legislation are the usual culprits in these attacks. Be vigilant in monitoring these groups influence of your district!!!!!!

Oh and schools are NOT in the entertainment business during the school day. "These little phones" have a defined place but students are most certainly not guaranteed the right to them for entertainment.

School is in the entertainment business if kids are forced to be there. The outrage of a cops actions and his firing are people saying that district policy is ridiculous. How about change it instead of MOVE. Again society is constantly saying that phones and computers are okay in schools now. The idea that you sit there all prim and proper with a pencil and paper are over. A kid looking at Facebook in class isn't bothering any student. It's only bothering the teachers ego. Classes are bigger and kids can plow through your idea of distractions these days. Your system isn't about education. Your sytem is about board control, prosecution of violations and pretending it's local control.

Again, almost all parents, except OSA ones, of course, send their kids to school with phones. Pretty much the whole country has decided it's okay. It's time to join the schools that have stopped interrupting class over it.
