270 Winchester is an American dream - make something out of nothing ... and SELL IT!!! Realistically 30-06 will do everything 270 can, and 30-06 will do it better: better bullet selection, better efficiency and more energy.

There is nothing wrong with loving "wrong" cartridge ... just don't try to rationalize it. Every year you hear that 270 is the most (or second) popular cartridge in America. And yet in the middle of the craziest ammo run in the history - 270 is still on the shelves of Walmart; either it is popular with people who don't care to shoot it much - or it is most popular only in the eyes of the writers.

I've had three 270 rifles, one of which was custom 270WSM - it was a hard (and expensive) lesson in trying to cheat the system: lesson being that 6.5mm and 7mm overlap so much (with ridicules bullet and case selection) that there is no room for a mid-step. Same goes for quarter-bore.

Here is a good read on 270 WIN: Is Jack O'connor's pet cartridge simply inaccurate?

Pretty good read. Was given some .270 components a while back. Don't own one, nor do I intend to. Traded them for some .223 ammo. Not saying it wouldnt be a decent hunting caliber but most everything I own rifle wise shoots .224 or .308 projectiles. Been wanting to venture out into the world of 6mm 6.5mm or 7mm just not had the time or the money. So my '06's do the job.

Right now my only rifle is my Marlin Glenfield lever gun, so I guess it would be the 30-30 for me.

Hey, don't laugh, I can kill milk jugs at 300 yards all day long with LeverEvolution ammo!

You do not need LeverEvolution to kill deer with the 30-30 at that range.
I have used 150gr flatnose..I now have a crony ..maybe i will test the speed of my reloads.
I know at 100 yards they were 1/2" lower than the LeverEvolution...probably much more at 300
but ..still deadly on white tail deer.(shot placement)

My favorite caliber 30-06
and i have a .243 and .308.. but really love that 30-06.

What kind of 45-70 do you have? I'm a sass shooter and wanting to get one for long range lever gun side matches.

Currently all my big bores are H&R, 3 45-70 of which two are the standard version & one Buffalo Classic which is an absolute dream to shoot.
I had a Marlin lever but traded it towards a S&W 617, I see another one (guide gun) somewhere in my future eventually.
I don't care much for the SASS stuff so I probably won't worry much about type versus performance.
