I have thought of that before, but I wasn't "seeking anyone out" but going outside at 3am due to "something" on my property and my wanting to be able to defend myself against possible badguy(s).

The beauty of the answer, is that if nothing is a threat I simply walk back inside, if there is a threat, well then, I'm glad I'm able to defend myself...

See, that's what I think too, but I am not sure that our laws here support doing that. My neighborhood gets a little iffy from time to time. Our biggest problem has been people trying to get in to our trucks. I have gone out more than once with a pistol in my pocket of the shorts I threw on early in the AM when I heard a rumbling vehicle sitting out front for too long. They always drive off after we make eye contact.

So is it legal? Am I defending my property, or am I looking for trouble? How does the law read? Anybody here know?

#1 - Why go outside? Why go to the possible danger? Someone outside can hide and wait......with his buddies. Someone outside is only going to steal or vandalize. Stuff can be replaced.
#2 - While outside who is protecting the family inside? While you are in the backyard who is kicking in the front door.
#3 - Inside your house you can move from room to room, in the dark, and observe what is going on outside without exposing yourself......er, position. Then if you see something you can decide what to do, scare off the neighbors tom cat or call 911.
#4 - If the noise is created by someone intent on doing you harm and they try to enter, you have the advantage. Baracade yourself and the family with the shotgun.

Side note....I hunt deer and elk by hiding in trees or behind cover in the shadows. I wait on the animal to move into my view so that I kill it.
My 2 cents

I have to agree. I'm home alone with my kids a lot since my husband has to travel every once in a while with his job. We live in the country, closest neighbor is 1/2 miles away. I have my consealed and carry 24/7. For the exact reason I'm alone with my kids 95% of the time. So if something were to happen and I were home alone. I would NOT go outside looking for trouble. I'd grab the shotty get my kids safe behind me in the closet, call 911 and wait. Someone better identify themselves before they walk up to my closet door. Just saying.

Quick situation...pistol.

If I had wait time, one of the others.

**Is your Uzi IMI or a Vector? I've had both but for some reason I liked my Vectors better.
Never had a suppressor on any of my guns nor any classIII stuff.

When shootinh at.the range, do you get a crowd lile I use to at H&H? Little uneasy with people crowded around you in the.shooting range and crowded around the glass also.

Nice group of weapons.

I chose the AR only because I'm not a fan of your shotgun. Badass, for sure, but I've always found the Shorty-shottys harder to manipulate. In self defense mode, stay in your wheelhouse. If your shotty was a Benelli M4 or an FN SLP, that's what I would have chosen. Great topic and intersting scenario. Top shelf weapons as well.

I would grab the 12g for a few reasons. Reason one is I don't have to be a good shot to hit something with it and two I would not shoot any of the neighbors.

However you are a pretty big guy so are you sure you would need a weapon?
