I hear ya, but up close bird shot turns flesh into hamburger meat per my buddy's description. At longer distances where only a few pellets hit the target, of course it isn't the best choice. But after seeing Paul Harrell's vid on buck shot and drywall, I'm not willing to risk it with kids in the house. To each his own of course.
I don't want hamburger meat, I want a chunk of **** on the floor.

I personally have no argument about what advantages a 9mm PCC has over a regular rifle. I just love them because they are so dang fun. They are the one gun that can make me spend all my ammo without thinking about it. I have way too many of them now. It's an addiction now!

The best argument I have seen for the PCC:

1) Interchangeability of ammo and in some cases magazines
2) Greater distance achieved than a pistol
3) Better Accuracy and Faster Shots than with a pistol, especially under pressure
4) Perceived as a larger threat than a pistol (intimidating)

This was in a magazine article, the author said he qualified with a higher score using the carbine instead of a pistol. The author also claimed that most people do better in simulated defensive situations with an AR or AR carbine. Wish I could remember the article author and date...
That’s comparing a pistol to a carbine.
That argument dies when comparing carbine to carbine. 9 vs 556

I agree that a 9mm in a PCC or “pistol” with a brace are fun to shoot. If the intent is to have a multi-purpose tool to train with and to use in some sort of home defense scenario, they are formidable and practical.

My CMMG Banshee is topped with Trijicon Green Dot and a CT Railmaster light/laser. Runs on Glock mags, just a lot of fun to shoot and practical for my use.

As to saving money for practice v. A 5.56/.223? You may find that you are shooting a lot more 9mm due to the fun factor.
