I'm all for Open Carry but I hope that people will use common sense. The last thing we need is a bunch of new gun buster signs showing up because of a few people making big public displays of carrying a firearm.

I was going to be very subtle, maybe my 1911 on my strong side, my full size glock on my weak side and my AR slung over my back but that's all, nothing over the top... ;p

That sounds about right.

I think I will get one of those SWAT type holters that hang way down and strap to your thigh so I will look tacticool!

Let me start this by saying I'm in law enforcement and am having trouble with this open carry discussion that has been going on for the past few days. I was under the impression that we live in Oklahoma and are by nature a fairly conserative bunch, but I am hearing a lot of liberal mentality on hear such as "I wouldn't open carry", people shouldn't, and even a fair amount of folks on here who are just flat against it. I don't know that I would personally open carry, but because I don't want anyone knowing I have a gun simply because if I need to use it I want the element of surprise on my side, but I think that if anyone in this state or any other for that matter wants to carry openly I'm for it. People will think twice before commiting crimes against others if there are folks walking around packing heat so to speak. It should be a personal choice and a choice that is available to citzens of this state without added fee's, etc. As to the guys on here talking about people having to have an orientation class or training to carry, shouldn't that be to buy a gun? I mean is special training needed to carry the gun, but not to take it to the range, store it in your home, etc. The whole thing is just a bit ridiculous in my opinion. Ricky

I feel very much the same. I think if you are going to carry a weapon that you should have to have some training. I have seen some people really scare me in the way that they handle a firearm. Unfortunately not everyone has met their common sense quota. Any newcomer that I talk to about guns or especailly concealed carry, I encourage all of them to go shoot some IDPA matches so they can get some real world practice of handling the gun safely, drawing it from concealment without shooting themselves and firing it enough to become confident and comfortable with it.

I know that it's related to the 2nd Amendment and some feel we should be able to do whatever we want, whenever we want and wherever we want with a gun, but I believe that a little common sense has to be used. I sure don't want one of these people with no training and little to no practice to make me, my family or friends an innocent victim or collateral damage.

And likewise, even if I didn't ever feel the need to open carry, I'd still be behind these current bills just for the sake of a more flexible concealed carry law.

You guys know it's against the law today to sit in your car- with the pistol exposed on your waist.

Open carry let's you do that simple thing without breaking the law.

Go to the barber... take your coat off? You can if this passes.

Jump out to pump gas .....in Tipton (or your favorite small town)?...no harm-no foul.

Cross the road on a ATV or horse to get to your stock on the other side?....Ditto.

Yea.... you probably won't carry 'open' just because you can.... but in this state (like most of flyover country) there is probably no around to see you anyway.

Well yes, that's definitely a plus as a CC holder. On the reverse side, the amount of idiots that will now be walking around thinking their Billy Badass because they have their gun hanging out will be overwhelming. I can't imagine the number of crimes there will be when these dumbasses draw their weapon in an act of "badassery". Mine is concealed, and WILL ALWAYS stay concealed regardless of the law. I for one am not in favor of open carry... But at the end of the day it won't affect me either way.

I'd counter your opinion ... Michigan allows open carry. And it's not tied to your CCW permit. Between my son and I... we have observed exactly "1" person heeled in plain view. We both traveled a lot in state over the time I was there...

You have to look to find an open gun in MO and Arizona for that matter. Spent a lot of time in rural Kentucky too... you may see a handgun in the open during the fall season... but probably not in down town Louisville.

Most people are smarter than we credit them on this kind of thing.

the OK proposed law is tied to the SDA CW card. Your saying the 5% of us in OK who have this card will go all Billy Badassed?

Run the numbers fella. If this law passes... you will see about 10 open guns a year. Hunting season... out in the boonies or some similar situation.

The few of us who may "actually" open carry will be doing so in business casual wear...IWB. I did it for a long time like that... and never drew a second look from anyone. Peace officers included, in places it's legal to do so.

Now for those 3 people who strap a Colt Walker on in a Carved Floral Mexican Loop holster.... that gets old fast... and I expect the novelty to die quickly.
