My wife has full custody. He daughter is visiting her dad in Texas currently. He is threatening not to return her this weekend, and says he's going to try to get custody. What do we need to do?

If he doesn't return her, call the FBI and report him for kidnapping. If he does, explain that from now on, he only gets to visit under your supervision, IF he agrees to get counseling.

I don't know him, so I can't offer reliable advice. Can't blame a guy for wanting custody of their own kid... but it seems your wife might seek council from her lawyer.

If he wants custody then he needs to go to court and seek it. Making threats like this will just hurt his future chances.

I agree, but how loosely is the term 'threatening' being used in this case? I just thought the instant 'call the FBI' was a little knee jerk, especially concerning the ultra-vague non-information given from OP. That was more my point. If the parent isn't a threat to the child, contact the court/attorney... For all we know, the father is the good parent wanting to keep his child out of a bad home (no offense, just example)

Speak to a lawyer, go to court and get a court order for supervised visitation. If there you child is not in immediate danger ( he takes care of her but just does not want to return her) play it cool. Talk to her on the phone make sure she is ok and let the courts work it out. Child custody is considered a civil not criminal matter.

We are planning to call an attorney today. He is not allowing us to talk to her to even find out if this is what she wants. This is really messy.
