Just out of curiosity, do atheist have the same disdain for Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism,Sikhism,Judaism,Confucianism, satanism, etc.?

I'm not aware of any member of those religions forcing me and my children to pledge allegiance to "one nation under God" or forcing me to use currency that says "in God we trust" or calling me a sinner or trying to put their statues on the lawn of the capital of my state or using the tax code and the law to socially engineer man-woman-children units, etc...

I think most socially conservative Christians have no sense of what the word freedom means and are confused about what it means to be an American. I have great disdain for those people. If you are the happy, leave people to live the way they want and you live the way you want kind of Christian, I have no disdain whatsoever for you. On the contrary, I have respect for you and your beliefs and hope all is well in your world.

It's not really about Christianity or God, it's about some people forcing their beliefs and will upon the rest of us that I have a problem with. Be it Christianity, atheism or circus clowns.

Speaking of circus clowns:

Well... I broke my internet posting rules so I had to back out!

Strike 1: I commented on the internet about abortion
Strike 2: I was a smart a$$
Strike 3: I quoted another user on a comment he made back on page 15 that was pretty much out of context and not fair to him (sorry Dale00)

It's all pretty much been said in here so I don't really have much to add.

But since I opened my mouth...

I grew up in a Baptist church, went to church camp, got baptized, touched my first boobs at a lock-in and all that good stuff but I never met God or Jesus and after a while had to be honest with myself. Struggling through that and ultimately accepting that in Oklahoma is a pretty tough experience. There comes a time where you have to wipe away all the BS they feed you with the donuts and kool-aid in Sunday school and think seriously about things. I think that is why the OP started this post in the first place.

When you are genuinely struggling to come to an understanding and the best you can get is "have you ever looked into a baby's eyes" or "just look at the trees and flowers" or "a god is the only explanation for all this" or my favorite "you just have to have faith" it gets a little frustrating. I think that is why the OP keeps digging. 20 pages and still no answer that some of us find compelling.

If you are able to throw all those questions to the side and have faith, great, I'm a little jealous. As they say, ignorance is bliss! If you have seen things that you believe are the "hand of God" and you are convinced He is real, great, I'm a little jealous. I haven't had that experience.

This doesn't sound rational does it? Sounds like a very bad attempt to bring some sort of reason to something by just saying everything is beyond human comprehension. Yes, it's horrible and beyond belief, but love God or go to hell. Really?

There is no hell. It is a false doctrine. Those things labeled hell by translators are Sheol(realm of the dead where souls await resurrection), Hades(grave) and Gehenna(a valley near Jerusalem where trash and pagan sacrifices occurred).

All of which are destroyed in the lake of fire(second death) with non-believers.

Buddhism and Confucianism do not preach the worship of a mythical being as far as I'm aware. Buddhism is more about improving the self. Confucianism is about your relationship with others and the world. Both are more useful belief systems than the others you listed IMO. Of course rebirth and karma are suspect without proof. I'm sure we'd all like to believe in karma though.

I really didnt want to contribute to all the anti catholic talk but...I really think the catholic church is one of the most historically evil and corrupt organizations to ever "grace" our planet. I dont see how an intelligent individual could ever back such a thing. I cant help but to be PO'd about the dark ages and the ancient knowledge lost in the name of Jesus.

I wonder how many jets they bought

Ask a Christian who has been truly converted and forgiven. If they tell you that it was as huge burden lifted from their shoulders and a feeling of peace as they have never known before entered their being. If it were as me, they went to bed that night lying in peace knowing that if the end came they would be ready and willing. They would pray as I did for the Lord to return quickly.
Those who deny Christ are damned already but those who believe and accept Him have eternal life. It's like when Paul and Siias were in jail and had a chance to escape but stayed. The Roman guard knew something supernatural had happened (read the story) but said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" The answer was short and brief but true-believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved and your family." Pretty simple isn't it? Too simple for the human mind to grasp unless something else-or someone else is working on your heart.

One more thing, if you reach a fork in the road a a dead person says go this way or that way and then a live person says go this way to life, who would you believe, the dead man or the one that is alive?
