Electrocuted in the shower was a bit of an issue early on, medical issues (too proud to tell anyone you are sick) happen, split rim wheels blowing apart while being worked on (not in the cage), choking on food eating alone and many other things happen.... Oh, more than a few that decide to off themselves. Weird world over there for sure...
The cook fridge thing actually happened during one of our ATs at Bliss.

Been using one for a bit over 10 years now. Recently got a new machine after study #2 with dr Jonathon Schwartz at Integris SW. get my stuff from Asbury medical Supply in N. May in okc. I have both obstructive and central apnea. Was having like 57 events per hour now down to just a few. It will change your life for the better. I had little trouble getting used to it once I got the right mask; now I strap in, close my eyes, and wake up refreshed 8 hours later, or earlier only if I set an alarm which I rarely do since I am an old retired bastage and refuse to work for anyone any longer. People used to say: “Aw, he passed away peacefully in his sleep”. Whatever. Poor SOB just stopped breathing and died is more than likely what happened. Make sure you get set up with a non leaking mask.

Can you not go to the VA, or whatever retired Jarheads get to do, for your supplies? The VA was pretty good about the study, the machine, and new supplies every 6 months. I've never been charged a dime for any of it and I'm not even retired.

Retirees don't get to use the VA Medical facilities; we have Tricare, which is very good, and go to a regular old civilian doc, or we can use facilities aboard a military base.

I've got a buddy that is still active duty, we served together in Japan back in the mid 90's...he was diagnosed a few years back...was told that he will get 50% disability for that when he retires...wow...he told me to go and file a claim through the VA when after my sleep study...but I don't know how they would ever consider that service connected. Anybody here done that?? The only thing I think I have that would help is the fact that I served in Atsugi, Japan during the yrs that they operated a big ass Incinerator not too far from our base....lots of reports of guys and family members getting sick now....a LOT of the guys I served with all have sleep apnea...and have had respiratory problems off and on over the yrs.

By the way, there’s a cool app called MyAir that lets you record and track various things, it gives you a nice “score” and informs you of things like mask leak, events per hour etc.
