If you got drawn for Lugert hunting area, the lake is full this year, leaving a thin strip on the NW side of the lake, and any pressure drives the deer right off the hunting area onto prison property.
There is a wider strip of land north of the lake, but the deer can easily go off the hunting area onto private land, which is posted. The bowhunters hit Lugert pretty heavily.
The huge deer that was taken in this area that got everybody fired up about Altus was said to have been poached off posted private land on the Salt Fork, nowhere near the public hunt area.
