I don't forsee the kind of circumstances under which I would shoot an American kid in uniform. Simple as that.

I would agree but the door swings both ways. Do you really think an 18 year old in uniform could turn his guns on you or his family? If, and that's a big if, revolution ever broke out here, I believe that we could expect mass desertion from our military services and many of them coming to our side. I know for a fact that the American Revolution is still a cornerstone of our service academy's curriculum and we should expect some backing from some, if not many of these academy grads.

Nice comparison, but no cigar. Those folks are highly motivated and have support from many elements of the general population.

Do you really think groups of mostly out of shape (usually obese) middle-aged men will be able to handle trained troops, no matter what tricked-out AR-15 they own and no matter what training they had in the 70s? If you do, I'd like you to cash a check drawn on a Nigerian bank.

Do you really think that our self-absorbed, weak-willed, comfort seeking populace won't sell out every self-styled patriot for a flat screen TV or cash to blow at the nearest casino?

JB, with all do respect, this is why our country will continue to slide down hill. Most people are resigned to the fact that nothing can be done so they "just roll with the punches". It doesn't matter if we're old, out of shape, or afraid of our neighbors selling us out. It's about ideology and heart. I believe that this is the greatest country in the world. I believe that the founding fathers got it right by making the US a constitutional republic. I believe that the best method of fighting this onslaught on our constitutional rights is through the ballot box. However, my fear of picking up arms and fighting for my constitutional rights will not be based on my personal arsenal, physical fitness, or fear of my neighbor. It will be based on my belief that what I am doing is right!

Sorry, but fat people with full bellies and 24/7 entertainment boxes don't do revolutions. Half don't even make the effort to vote. :)

Not that I think a revolution is likely at this time (I see something more like the civil war where states stand up to the federal government), but the Revolutionary War was fought with far fewer than half or even 29%.
