Yea thats why I suggested you buy 2...that and contactor is most common in this heat.
In cold its usually blower r/s capacitor.., heat sensor. spark ignitor, elec board ...its best to have a friend/contact that can get these for ya...or keep a couple on hand.
Some of the older ones you could jump for heat , the newer ones not so much sometimes.
If ya got the cash go buy a cheap a/c at wallys, itll keep part of the house cool.
Good Luck

For less than $200 I bought my neighbors a 7,000 BTU unit a while back. Their bedroom is staying nice and cool they say. I have been wishing I had bought one for myself the last few days when the heat gets up over 105 I can't get the house below 80 and sure would love to be able to retreat to a nice cool room and not burden the AC to try keeping the whole house comfortable.

Out of the hundreds Ive messed with only a select few needed replaced and one of those was because the insulator busted. The trick is not to touch it after or during sanding. I use aluminum Oxide emery cloth. Maybe that helps?

Yep alox emery cloth and and wore powder free fresh latex gloves and no good had to replace it.

Mine did this the other day. I turned it to on instead of auto went out there with the water hose and soaked it down, cleaned the fins again( not real dirty) and apparently it had just over heated and shut down to Ave it's self. It kicked on after about 5 minutes of cooling it down with the hose. Since then I have just run a drip hose laid on top of the unit to keep it cooled down during the heat of the day. My house doesn't get above 72 degrees now. Also replaced my return filters. Fixed my problem. Might try it.

Thanks to Eaglerjs, the problem is now solved and my AC works once again. He gave me permission to give his number out, 918-850-2665 to anybody that's ever in my position that I was in today. The capacitor was fine, the whole problem was due to a breaker tripping. I swore I flipped it earlier several times but had him on the phone and when I flipped it the unit came right on.

I've been struggling with my compressor all weekend too. I had a new capacitor installed Friday evening and the system started shutting down again on Saturday afternoon. I've managed to keep it going by cutting the breaker to the compressor and then letting it sit for 30 minutes. I put a water sprinkler spraying the unit and that kept it running for the rest of Saturday. This heat is killing compressor fans and capacitors everywhere.
