So I have a hoppes cleaning kit that's been my trusty cleaning kit, so I put a 22 brush on it to clean my 10/22 and I am getting metal shavings off the rod (I can see the scratches on it) so my question is has this happened to any one else? It works fine with patches no shavings just the brush.

Shavings as in copper/lead coming out with the brush? Or as in running your rod on the crown?

If it's lead and copper, the brush is doing its job.

If you're damaging your rod, you're damaging your barrel. There are several small bore, rubber/polymer coated rods available out there, as well as pull through protected cables.

I just tried brushing it again and I think it may have been factory left overs cause I got nothing today. I had only done 2 passes of the brush so I doubt there was any damage done.

I tried on the other and I think it was just me not pulling straight out and scraping the edge of the barrel and rubbing the rod. I'm used to my sks and mosin where I have like a mile around the rod.
