And the flipside of that coin is democrat doesnt mean socialist.

What has been happening in the Republican party is an attempt to rewrite history to make all things Republican as conservative. The slogan isnt CINO its RINO. Reagan wasnt conservative and yet the republicans are doing a limbo dance to try and out Reagan each other. I was Reagan's footsoldier, Reagan would love me more! :brick:

I see Conservatives without much recourse than to stay in the Republican lifeboat, too many burned bridges for any other course.

But to think that because a President is a certain party his actions on restricting the 2nd A is foreseeable....

What ultra conservative President said if a 'gun-ban' is put on his desk he would sign it? Oh hint, same one who ran up a 5 to 6 trillion dollar debt and has set the long term red ink at roughly 1.4 trillion?

I cant recall who said this- Conservatism is great in theory, never practised in reality.

Perhaps that is the single biggest reason Ron Paul has been a warped version of Cassandra, sees clearly the furture but the King doesnt believe.

Actually history shows Republicans permanently ban weapons using the 'common sense' doctrine and Executive Order. Not exactly what the Founding Fathers discussed.

Reagan banned civilian purchase of any select fire weapon made after '86.
He eliminated a weapon by name as not needed by hunters or used by competition shooters. He forbid concealed carry on any national park or refuge, even if the state allows concealed on public land. I cant imagine what the patriotic gun owners would have done if Carter had done that!

It was only in the waning days of the Younger President Bush's administration was the concealed carry ban rescinded. NONE of the Reagan firearm bans and restrictions were ever voted on.

The Elder Bush continued to restrict weapons and magazine capacity by Presidental Decree. 86 weapons were banned fom import, magazine capacity was reduced using the same 'common sense' doctrine. Again, no debate in Congress, no vote of the people, just a quick few strokes of a pen. Every petty tyrant across the globe must have smiled.

A higher precentage of House Republicans voted for the Sweeping Brady Bill than did Democrats. But at least the Brady Bill was debated and voted on by Congress and not made law by a wave of the Executive Pen.

So I am always puzzled by the idea that the Dems take and the Repubs restore.

You're right on. I get annoyed when people don't get that.

This preznit recently signed a bill allowing concealed carry in national parks.
What's he up to? Let's not look at what he does. Let's look in there at his heart and figger out what he's gonna do.

Obama and his cabinets of "friends" have an agenda that they are wanting to fullfill. I believe he has accomplished one major feat (Obamacare) and will eventually look towards accomplishing another feat favored by his political party. I can foresee a higher rate of taxes being imposed on firearms and related equipment to increase government revenues and attempt to deter firearm purchases.

Just my thoughts.

conservatism and liberalism are all a bunch of BS anyway... they both divide liberty up into the parts they like and the parts they don't like.

Its hard to tell them from each other nowadays anyway, when the supposed conservative president passed the biggest entitlement increases since the 1960s and the supposed liberal president escalated the wars. I think most main-stream politicians, regardless of party, fall into the category of "statist."

It helps to break out of the left-right paradigm and think of things in terms of liberty vs. tyranny.
