If I know that I have to go to a prohibited place (courthouse etc.) I wear one of my less expensive holsters with a retention strap and just remove the gun. If I will not be at a restricted location I wear my expensive holsters that are highly boned and reinforced such that a retention strap is not required. I'm not going to collapse an expensive holster by wearing it without a gun.

If it's a government building, I take my holster off so that none of the goobers who work there call a cop, and I get beaten to death over an empty holster.

My gun safe in my vehicle I leave it in is approved for use in the Soviet Socialist Republik of Kalifornia.

I originated the pole. I guess I might need to start another thread. I have to go inside the post office and have to visit the County building on a regular basis. Post office does not have sensors, at least that I know of, but I disarm for my quick in and out. County has a manned metal detector, so any violation of any kind would not be even an option. I forgot my flat, less than 3" flat SS pocket knife one time, pulled it out with my keys. I was able to pick it up on the way out.

My main thought was whether the holster showing in a "real" no firearm zone might be a problem for these situations, OWB belt and sometimes IWB supertuck is a hassle to remove. I wondered if any others here might have had experiences.
I guess I should have thought about that for wording of my pole. Thanks for the responses and opinions.

One time, I was in the Garfield County Courthouse in Enid, and I had removed my handgun, leaving it in my truck. The holster was a FIST, IWB kydex and as the deputies wanded me, the screws in the holsters set the alarm off. They had me to pull the shirt covering the holster up, and asked me what the holster was. I told them and they asked me if I had a license to carry. I said 'yes', and went inside the courthouse.

I got the impression that they did not really approve of my carrying.

Yes, it is definitely illegal to even have your gun in your car in a federal post office parking lot.

I can't quote the statute, but my friend who got popped certainly can,,,
He's been fighting this for over two years.

Yes, it is not illegal to wear an empty holster on the OSU campus,,,
But is it worth a mediocre yearly evaluation to do it?

They can't necessarily write you a bad evaluation just for wearing an inert piece of leather,,,
But in the "Stewardship" section of your evaluation form is where you will suffer,,,
In case you are wondering I got this directly from Marlene Strathe,,,
The former Provost and I used to have a beer together,,,
We were only casual acquaintances and all,,,
But she gave me that advice.

I like my job and non-felon status too much to mess around,,,
Same with the advice of "concealed is concealed",,,
I park across the street from my Post Office,,,
I lock my gun in a secured steel box,,,
Same as on the OSU campus.

How did they even know your "friend" had a gun in his car at all??????

Apparently, someone (maybe an employee-maybe a customer), saw him take his pistol out of the holster and put it in the glove compartment.

It was the post-master of that office who called the cops.

It's tragic as far as I'm concerned,,,
He will (has already) lost his life savings,,,
Now he's just trying to avoid a long prison sentence.

Like I said,,,
I park across the street.

If it somewhere like a courthouse or post office I would plan my carry and day accordingly. And the holster question depends on if it's easy to get off while sitting and can be done discretely.

I carry IWB 99% of the time.
