How do they do it?

I have been attempting to buy a set of Smith K-frame square combats for months. Each time I have been sniped and the "auction ended" and the "outbid" notices happen at the same time.

Understand...I put in the price I am willing to pay and let the auction play out so I am not upset by the outcome. I am just wondering how they snipe so that the bid takes at the same time the auction ends.

The way I used to do it was simply wait until the auction was counting down and then enter my maximum price. Most times people will either not bid or not be able to bid fast enough to beat you.

For those grips, you might also try gun broker and auction arms sites.

Somewhere out here!
The person that outbid you had their max price set above what you bid. So you can bid over what the current 'bid' price is, but their max proxy is above what you agreed to pay, so you are automatically outbid.

There are apps available that will do it for you, I tried one of the Android apps and found that it was about 50% effective. It worked like a champ a few times, other times it was like the app forgot to bid for me at all, that's why I gave up on it so quickly. It's a way of last second bidding with out divulging your max bid, it sounds like a good idea in theory but the particular app I was using was flakey, probably because I was using the free version.
