Congrats! Those little baits will take anything in the lake from tiny to huge. When I'm fishing I want to catch fish. I don't care what the specie is and i don't care how big they are. They can always be released if too small but had the pleasure of the fight.

yes i know that is right.. i even caught a saugeye, a 4.5 pound blue, then about a 1pound blue gill yesterday off of the 1/16 ounce.

Took a guy and his son on a fishing trip today.
Sons first day with his new rod fishing. He’s had it for several days to practice in the yard.
Dad bought him a spinning reel and quality rod.
Little guy was on fire today.
4 drum at 2-3.5 lb each, 4 lb bluecat, and a 1.3 lb and 2.5 lb channel cat.
He likes his new rod and reel!

That is excellent for that youngster, you probably created a monster fisherman now.

I am at a friend's place in Piedmont this weekend, he has access to a very large pond (id say at least a 10 to 12 acre body of water). We got permission & went fishing & I caught my first ever blue cat, about 3.5 lbs. I also caught a small (less than 1 lb flathead). & sadly, I left my phone in his garage so I couldn't take a picture. But I caught both on a 1/8 oz spinning jig with a 2 inch black curl tail worm.
Cause I really was going after something other than catfish.

^^^ Wow Very nice Congrats to your wife.
T bird lake 2 days ago I got 13 cats. All the blues had laid their eggs and the channel cats I caught were about to pop with big eggs in them.
I think the blue cat spawn is over. We caught a half dozen last week that were full of bloody eggs ready to lay them. Only one yesterday and it was probably a male or a female spawned out. We released all the fish we caught.

I bought a fishing license and never wet a hook this trip. I’ve got to get up here more than once a month, because there’s too much sh*t to do and not enough hours in the day.:censored:

I did look at the river though...

Looks like the river on my salt fork place and just as muddy as the Arkansas River we caught fish in.
Cats use their whisker/barbels to detect smell. They are not much on sight feeding although that's not out of the question if they are hungry.
